Fight Report: Callum Gadd vs Grant Mallinson
Callum Gadd travelled into hostile territory on Saturday night to take on Grant Mallinson in the main event on Mallinson's home turf. With the headline bout not getting underway until after 11pm, the pressure was immense. The atmosphere was electric, the crowd firmly behind the hometown fighter, and the stakes couldn't have been higher.
In the build-up, Mallinson wasn't shy with the trash talk, but Gadd remained true to himself. Staying humble, respectful, and focused, he refused to get drawn into the mind games. Respect is the foundation of boxing, and rather than engage in the verbal exchanges, Gadd chose to let his fists do the talking.
From the opening bell, Grant Mallinson showed exactly why he is such a dangerous fighter. Slick, quick on his feet, and sharp with his jab, he boxed superbly. Fast counters and accurate shots began to find their mark, leaving Gadd bloodied and bruised as the rounds progressed. Mallinson's movement and timing presented real problems early on.
But Gadd weathered the storm.
Patiently walking Mallinson down, he knew that whenever he could get his hands on him, he could cause damage. Despite taking punishment, he stayed composed and continued to apply pressure, forcing Mallinson to work every second of every round.
After three gruelling rounds, the fight entered the fourth, and this was where Gadd's relentless preparation began to show. The intense circuits, countless road runs, and extra pad sessions with coach Tony Smith started to pay dividends.
Gadd increased the pressure, backing Mallinson onto the ropes and landing a series of crushing uppercuts, straight shots, and sickening body punches. The sustained attack finally broke through, sending Mallinson crashing to the canvas for the first time in the fight.
To his credit, the tough Chippenham man beat the count and rose to his feet. The referee signalled for the contest to continue.
Sensing the finish, Gadd immediately went back on the attack. Once again, he forced Mallinson into the same corner and unleashed another barrage of heavy shots. It proved too much. Mallinson hit the canvas for a second time, almost falling through the ropes under the force of the assault.
At that point, Mallinson's corner had seen enough. The towel came in, and the referee waved off what had been a fantastic contest between two genuine warriors.
When the dust settled, respect and sportsmanship won the day. Both fighters showed tremendous heart, courage, and professionalism throughout.
Callum Gadd emerged victorious with a fantastic away win, overcoming the odds and silencing the hometown crowd through determination, discipline, and sheer grit.
