We hosted our resplendent group of eighteen Norfolk farmers yesterday to an afternoon’s bowls. Their annual visit risked being thwarted by rain but the sun shone, the green ran well and the Peroni’s were smoothly dispatched !!
Tom Rivett, the group’s Pageantmaster, orchestrated an excellent afternoon’s bowls. The Farmers are proficient bowlers playing quite regularly, often on private greens in the gardens of some of their members !
Tom brought his son George along to initiate him in the wonderful sport of bowls. George, a natural sportsman, grasped the game quickly and contributed well to his team’s efforts.
Another stalwart of the group is Chris Coubrough. Chris is the owner and Head Chef at The Crown Hotel, Wells Next To The Sea in Wells-next-the-Sea, one of the county’s best known residences and eateries.
After the final bout of the afternoon that might be referred to as a ‘lazy spider’ where the winner, James Southgate, took a £1 coin off all the other 17 entrants, the farmers retired to a bowlers banquet at The Crown Hotel where Chef Coubrough delivered another three bowls of, this time, delicious culinary delights to round off another excellent day.
Tom, on behalf of the Farmers, thanked “Robin and Wells Town Bowls Club, for the opportunity to enjoy another fabulous game of bowls on one of north Norfolk’s finest greens. We very much look forward to returning again next year”.
