We were delighted to welcome Harry Short and his friends Angus and Max, old school friends from around Peterborough, to Try Bowls this morning. What got their attention as they passed our green was hearing ‘Boom Radio’ serenading our roll-up and thought “that looks fun”. 🎶☀️🎶
YES - that MUSIC LICENSE was worth stumping up for !!
Of course, with golfing experience, all three of them took to the green as ‘naturals’ and were intrigued by the contours of the green. Despite a few ‘wrong biases’ and the occasional bowl that might have been relevant to ‘10 pin bowling’😂 they all had some excellent ends with Harry taking the ‘big bucks’ prize in the hotly contested 3-2-1 competition they fought for.
They woke this morning with some plans to play golf this afternoon. By midday they’d turned into passionate bowlers with serious talk of abandoning the afternoon golf and playing more bowls !!!
Such is the intrigue of the wonderful sport of lawn bowls ❤️
We look forward to welcoming them and their friends when they’re next back in Town 😊

We enjoyed our first ‘Social’ on Friday evening with over 40 members and visitors joining us for bowls, burgers and pétanque ! Our newly refurbished pétanque court was fully tested with the captain and his wife victorious on the night. Much merriment was had by all and floodlit bowls continued into the moonlit evening serenaded by the Secretary’s upbeat sound system. And we were delighted to pick up 3 new members ! 🍷☀️🎶

So the sun finally shone and our third attempt at a Try Bowls day was a huge success with six enthusiastic newbies joining us for their first mornings bowls. They dived into the spirit of the occasion with great aplomb and proved how quickly they could get to delivering some very decent bowls under the auspices of our fabulous newbies coach Christopher Holmes. The music played, the green sparkled and fun was had by all. We are very hopeful they’ll be back soon to join us as members and get to enjoy our bowls, pétanque, social evenings (last Fridays of the month) and our growing community of friendly members. 🤞🏼😊🎱☀️❤️

We hosted our resplendent group of eighteen Norfolk farmers yesterday to an afternoon’s bowls. Their annual visit risked being thwarted by rain but the sun shone, the green ran well and the Peroni’s were smoothly dispatched !!
Tom Rivett, the group’s Pageantmaster, orchestrated an excellent afternoon’s bowls. The Farmers are proficient bowlers playing quite regularly, often on private greens in the gardens of some of their members !
Tom brought his son George along to initiate him in the wonderful sport of bowls. George, a natural sportsman, grasped the game quickly and contributed well to his team’s efforts.
Another stalwart of the group is Chris Coubrough. Chris is the owner and Head Chef at The Crown Hotel, Wells Next To The Sea in Wells-next-the-Sea, one of the county’s best known residences and eateries.
After the final bout of the afternoon that might be referred to as a ‘lazy spider’ where the winner, James Southgate, took a £1 coin off all the other 17 entrants, the farmers retired to a bowlers banquet at The Crown Hotel where Chef Coubrough delivered another three bowls of, this time, delicious culinary delights to round off another excellent day.
Tom, on behalf of the Farmers, thanked “Robin and Wells Town Bowls Club, for the opportunity to enjoy another fabulous game of bowls on one of north Norfolk’s finest greens. We very much look forward to returning again next year”.
