Summer Nationals.
What a weekend… huge highs followed by some heart-breaking lows.
**Q1** – Kicked things off with a solid **10.44**, putting us in as the **No.1 qualifier**, along with a new **PB speed of 130mph**.
**Q2** – Improved again with a **10.18** and another **mph PB of 131**, although due to the breakout it dropped us back to **No.2 qualifier**.
**Q3** – We dialled in at **10.14** and ran a **10.15**, reclaiming the **No.1 qualifying spot**, setting a new **ET PB**, and recording our **third mph PB of the weekend at 133mph**.
**Q4** – Unfortunately, I couldn't hold the car on the lights and rolled through the stage, so we didn't get a time on the board. Thankfully, it made no difference to the standings and we held onto the **No.1 qualifying position**.
**Q5** – We were absolutely flying until halfway down the track when it suddenly felt like I was in another dimension. Everything just seemed to shut off. For a moment I thought it was all over, then, just as suddenly, everything came back to life, and we were back on it. Not the ET we were hoping for, but still a respectable **10.32 @ 127mph**.
Back in the pits, the team gave the car a thorough check-over. It looked like the crank trigger bolt may have come loose, which could explain the strange mid-track issue, but we wouldn't know for sure until Sunday's first elimination.
Sunday morning's warm-up raised a few concerns. The engine didn't quite sound or feel right, but after discussing it, and taking advice was told “send it”.
Unfortunately, **E1** confirmed our fears. The car had nothing left in it, and once we got back to the pits, we found the cause—**two pushrods had made an appearance in the rockers, bringing our weekend to an end (sorry Rory).
A disappointing finish to what had been a hugely rewarding weekend. There are definitely mixed emotions, but we'll take plenty of positives away: **No.1 qualifier, a new ET PB, three new mph PBs, and a car that showed real potential.
Now it's back to the workshop to find out exactly what happened, get everything repaired, and see if we can be ready for the **Green Light Nationals**.
As always, a massive thank you to everyone who helps make this possible—our crew, family, and everyone who came over to support us throughout the weekend. We'll be back.

Dragstalgia... what can I say? 🥵 It was mega hot... like, melting hot!
Friday saw us manage three runs during RWYB. The ETs weren't quite where we wanted them to be, but after all the work the previous weekend—changing the diff gears and fitting a new accelerator mechanism—we thought we'd finally got things sorted.
But, in true drag racing style, just when you think you're getting somewhere, you're thrown another curveball!
On our last run of Friday, the scoop decided it had had enough, threw a little tantrum, and cheekily turned itself to face the wall! I carried on accelerating, lifting slightly because, with the weather being absolutely scorching and now no air going into the engine, there wasn't much point keeping it pinned. We crossed the finish line at 109 mph to be precise.
About three-quarters of the way down the shutdown area (right at the end of the sandy-coloured section), I went for the brakes...
BANG!
No brakes.
Lots of clonking.
Absolutely nothing.
Thankfully, Marie Mills was far enough ahead that she'd already turned off into the return road. I, however, was rapidly approaching the point where I was thinking, "I really don't want to end up in that field!"
There was absolutely no chance of making the left turn into the return road, but then, in a split second, I spotted the farm track on my right. Decision made—that's where we were going!
I made a sharp right turn, the back end bouncing around, while praying to the drag racing gods that we weren't about to roll the car.
Thankfully... we made it.
Phew!
Now all I had to do was actually stop... which seemed to take forever! I honestly thought I was going to end up having a cup of tea at the farmhouse—we went that far down the lane before the car finally rolled to a halt.
A huge thank you, as always, to the absolutely fantastic safety crew, who came to my rescue and pushed the car all the way back to the return road, where a very confused Mark, Rory, Morgan and Kassey—and an even more confused Marie—were all waiting for me!
Back in the pits, after removing enough broken bits to tow the car back, we found the culprit: a broken calliper bracket. Thankfully, the caliper itself had only suffered a little damage and was salvageable.
Then, once again (I think this makes about the fifth time now!), Nick Williams came to the rescue. He appeared with his collection of brake discs, brackets and callipers. The discs and callipers weren't the right fit, but the bracket was absolutely perfect!
With our repaired calliper and Nick's borrowed bracket, we got everything back together. While the car was in pieces, the boys also had another go at sorting the accelerator issue, ready for Saturday.
We missed the first round on Saturday morning but made it out for Round 2.
By Sunday, things were finally heading in the right direction. We were back into the low 10s with a respectable 10.29 @ 125.46 mph and 10.35 @ 127.72 mph.
So, all in all, it was a good end to a very emotional weekend—extreme heat, plenty of highs and lows, an unexpected off-road adventure (one we definitely don't want to repeat! 😂), and, most importantly, we got the car home in one piece and moving in the right direction.
It definitely wasn't the weekend we had planned, but that's drag racing for you... never a dull moment! Onwards and upwards—we'll keep chipping away, and hopefully we'll be back where we know the car belongs before long. 🏁💙
Finally, we'd just like to finish by saying a few thank yous and congratulations.
Humongous thank you to Ruaridh for still loaning us the engine and crewing the weekend
A massive congratulations to Ford Skipp and his crew on an incredible new PB of 7.31 @ 178 mph! 👏
Congratulations also to Harley Coulsell on his new PB of 8.17 (we think! 😄).
And, of course, huge congratulations to the entire Coulsell family on winning the SPRC Spirit of Drag Racing Award. It couldn't have gone to a more deserving family. Your absolutely fabulous and incredibly emotional display during the Cacklefest was something none of us will forget. ❤️
Last, but certainly not least, a huge thank you to every single member of the Santa Pod crew. Your hard work, dedication and commitment, whatever the weather or the challenges, never go unnoticed. Without every one of you, we simply wouldn't be able to do what we all love so much.
Here's hoping the rest of the season is a little less eventful... although, knowing drag racing, we won't hold our breath! 😂🏁

Thought it was about time we gave everyone a little update, as we've been *uber* quiet so far this season!

It goes a little something like this...

After an absolutely amazing season last year, we didn't really feel the need to make any major changes to the car over the winter. Just the usual oil change, a new shifter (no more finding neutral at half-track... yay! 😅), and a new MSD, which we hoped would finally solve our intermittent gremlin... or so we thought.

Full of excitement, we headed to the Festival of Power, but things didn't quite go to plan. Our dial-ins were around 1–2 seconds down. We were running into headwinds with some serious mph gusts, so we weren't sure whether the conditions were to blame. We decided not to worry too much, as the Nostalgia Nationals were next on the calendar and would give us another chance to test.

Unfortunately, there wasn't much improvement, so we knew we definitely had an issue... but what?

The guys spent all day Saturday checking the new wiring and the MSD. We made another run... no change. My foot was flat to the floor, and there was simply no more in it, still running between one and two seconds off the pace.

Next, we checked the timing. It was set correctly at idle, but as the revs increased, the timing would re**rd before returning to normal when back at idle. Cue around 10 people standing in the pits, all scratching their heads! 🤔

With the new MSD packed full of fancy settings and gadgets, we decided to borrow a basic MSD and spent even more time checking the distributor, but still... no change.

To cut a *verrrrrrrrry* long story short, we eventually discovered we had a damaged engine.

At that point, we genuinely thought our season was over.

Thankfully, Rory and Ian Hart came to the rescue. They very kindly offered to loan us one of their engines, and after a few discussions—and a very long day in the workshop—our engine was out, theirs was in, and we were ready for the Main Event.

We were convinced that would solve all our problems...

We were wrong! 😂

We were back into the mid-to-low 10s, which was definitely an improvement, but still nowhere near where we expected to be.

After yet another thorough search through the car, we finally discovered another issue—we weren't actually getting full throttle! After spending all day trying to rectify it, we got it as good as we could and just ran with what we had for the rest of the weekend.

Next stop... **Dragstalgia!**
