Today Exiles went to Kettering Town Vets with a nice 5-2 win under our belt, but today was not to be our day.
From the off Kettering played great football leaving Exiles to try get into the form they showed in previous games. Within the first 12 minutes came the first goal. A floated in cross, intended for men at back post, caught stand in keeper Matty Ekins out.
From the restart, Exiles started to play football showing the form that from previous games would win matches. Within 5minutes of going a goal down, Andrew Lewis, James Coowar, Ian Young and Lawrence gardener all had shots not troubling the keeper. Then, with a long ball down the middle, Kettering were awarded a free kick - 2-0. Good free kick. With another Exiles attack on the right, James Coowar, with the outside of his foot took a shot that struck the post. 2-0 at half time.
Exiles then moved formation around as the second half started. We seemed to be a lot more solid across the pitch and the defence playing a higher line caught Kettering offside many times. Exiles pushed to get a goal, playing great football, but just couldn’t put the ball in the net.
With Kettering legs getting heavy and tired Exiles pushed hard to score Then with a swift counter attack by Kettering, Exiles were caught out at the back. With Matty Ekin making a great save, the ball landed to a Kettering town player who chipped the ball into the net, 3-0. The game then slowed down with tired legs and both teams playing man for man, tackle for tackle, Andrew Lewis and Dean Masterson with a few shots each but the game ended 3-0. Thank you Kettering for hosting Exiles today.
