The men return to action on Saturday playing Higham Town at home at 2.30 pm.

Last time out Higham narrowly lost to the impressive young Market Harborough Town Development, who are looking to gain promotion to Step 6, so Higham will be a tough test for the team.

Bars open from 1pm all through the game and afterwards.

A truly sad day for Northants football, anyone who knew the great man will have fond memories of him.

He will be sadly missed by all the football family especially by those of us who have known him so long, Rest in Peace Tony we will never forget you.

Condolences to his Wife Christine and all the family. 💙💙💙💙

Northamptonshire FA is extremely saddened to share the news of the passing of long serving volunteer, Council & ex-Board member, Tony Major.

Tony was a man who did so much for so many, and offered an outstanding contribution to local football over many years, and his family have shared the below tribute:

"To many he was Mr Northants Football. A man synonymous with his support for the game in Northamptonshire. Football was his passion. From a young age, having made his debut for Vernon Terrace at school to holding a number of positions across the County, everybody knew Tony Major. A career spanning several decades.

Whether it was watching the Premier League on the TV and seeing people he had supported progress or spending many, many afternoons across the County supporting the work of both the Northamptonshire Football Association or the Northampton Town FA, this was a man who could be relied upon. This was a man who dedicated a large part of his life to football development in the county. A county he adored.

Whilst to many he was Tone, to us he was a husband, a father, a grandfather and great-grandfather. Whilst he was supremely talented in the football field, this was where he really shone. He adored Christine and his family. We knew that. Nothing made him prouder than seeing all their achievements (and definitely watching them in football!).

Whilst the last few years have been extremely challenging, the support from the 'football family' has always been there and for that we are extremely grateful and whilst we mourn the loss of the Head of our family, we look back with fondness on the legacy he created and the inspiration he has been to so many.

We would like to thank you all for the kind messages and support at this difficult time."

We will forever remember Tony for his ever-present smile, and his tireless dedication to grassroots football. Our thoughts go out to Tony's family and friends at this extremely difficult time.

All matches taking place in Northamptonshire FA County Cups this weekend will observe a minutes silence in memory of Tony.

After the debacle of a performance the week before Saturday demanded it had to be a huge improvement.

But it was not, a horrific mix up from 2 of the most experienced players on the pitch gifted Thrapston with a simple goal, a situation that should have been dealt with easily and quickly, this reporter believes the fines matched the scale of incompetence.

That's it...sums the 1st half up

0-1

According to the bar veterans the manager was letting Heyford know their performance was unacceptable, loudly and clearly, and most should have left the dressing room with footprints on the rear of their shorts.

The 2nd half was totally different, the ear bending had worked, and they gained the upper hand.

Derrick Okoye scored a spectacular overhead kick to bring them level. Then it was a case of everyone was waiting for the 2nd and 3rd to be added, and they should have been.

But the Thrapston defence and keeper put in a hell of a performance and coupled with a lino whose arm was going up and down quicker than a violinists elbow playing Rimsky Korsakov's Flight of the Bumblebee !!

"Linesman of the Season"?? The regulars on the geriatric terrace who were in line with him had a different title!!

So full time 1-1

Thrapston are run by a great group of people and the players are nice lads and everyone at Heyford wish you all the best for the rest of the season.

After a poor performance on Saturday the mens team get an immediate chance to put that behind them and put it right when they entertain newly promoted and League one winners Thrapston Venturas this coming Saturday 5th September 2026.

The team will be up for a win but so will Thrapston, the clubs have only met once in the NTFA Gorrell Barnes Cup with Heyford coming out on top that time.

The lads suffered their 1st defeat since the opening pre season game, versus step 6 Irchester, some 12 games ago and they have nobody to blame but themselves.

Had a top referee unlike the last game where abysmal officiating cost them the 3 points, in a tropical downpour the team wilted like a delicate orchid.

Against a "kick and Rush" Team it should have been "easy peasy", poor defending, right through the spine, gifted Raunds their 1st, only highlight for Heyford 1st half was Luke Smart hitting the bar with a thunderous shot from a wide angle.

HT 0-1

The 2nd half was no better, more keystone cops defending, as a team, could not pass wind let alone to themselves.

Bien Kayij equalised and it was hoped that would be the kick up the derriere to push on, but no a calamitous mistake at a corner allowed the striker to to tap in, then to round a poor day off Ryan Whitmore unluckily scored an OG.

The sun came out for last 10 and the orchids picked up noticeably but too little too late.

Kenny had a great display.....no nothing else springs to mind.

Mistakes, bad passing, unacceptable defending, for the 1st time in 12 games resulted in a 1-3 loss.

These lot accepted they were not good enough, no arguing, they are a close knit group with loads of passion and belief and are hurting and will use that hurt.

Raunds Town Football & Social Club adapted to the conditions better, were physichal and non stop, good bunch of lads and staff, we wish them well for the rest of the season and hope Rothwell Corrinthians have more free Saturdays...

The mens team travelled to Long Buckby last night somewhere some of us had not been for decades, and not much has changed just looks worn and tired, the ground aswell.

The game started and about 20 in the ball was squared across Buckbys box and under pressure the ball came off of the defender into the corner of the net.
Then laughable defending, well lack of it, allowed Buckby to equalise, and then we equalised through Marcin Klima from a corner.

A very good goal from Luke Smart was overturned for "offside" 🤣🤣 by a player linesman whose flag twitched, to the shout, all 1st half.

HT 1-2

In the 2nd half the linesman entered the field of play, blimey what a player big strong and as quick as Eno "Speedy Gonzalez" Macroy. The player he replaced must be a diamond to keep him out of the starting lineup...but he escapes memory.

Luke Smart put us 1-3 up with a finely taken goal then the lino/striker got on the end of a long ball from the keeper, his speed was frightening and his finish sublime, but apparently smashing your elbow into a defenders eye socket is fine but when leaving the pitch, when being subbed, it has to be the right place thats far more important...right o!

Marcin's eye looked like a butchers block afterwards and was struggling to see out of it after, no taking away the players goal but should have been a foul minimum.

At 2-3 Ahmed Mohamed was finally put on and instantly smashed a volley past the despairing keeper, with less less than 10 minutes to go and it should have been seen out, and with our normally on par strikers guilty of some blatant misses 1st and 2nd half it really should have been done and dusted, but a player was allowed to go around 2 or 3 or more before curling a great strike into the top corner, then a penalty was awarded 🤣🤣🤣 "handball" the wrong way, and the lad took a perfect Penalty giving Isaac no chance, then Victor Mapanga was carded for a perfect tackle ,agreed by all it was almost as if a draw was pre ordained, by one person at least. It's a pity yellows can not be appealed.

The team were probably guilty of complacency due to Buckbys previous games, but they are building and progressing a good side, rapid up top with a diamond in the middle of the park who was outstanding and was definitely Man of the match, a small blonde lad, sorry do not know his name, they are definitely heading in the right direction and will upset any team that take them lightly. We wish them all the best for the rest of the season.

Saturday sees us at home to Raunds Town, another team pointless who will definitely be up for a game and hope the lads do not treat them lightly and play how they did the 1st 2 games of the season, as 2 goals up with 6 minutes to go and getting pegged back, all be it with help, is not what is required hence the dark angry look of the gaffer on the final whistle.

The mens team travel to Long Buckby Wednesday night to try and keep the run going and make it 12 from 12.

The Women are at home tomorrow night v Higham Ladies from the league above them in a pre season friendly, ko at 6.45 come and watch last seasons NWGFL Division one Champions.

We welcomed a new look Kettering Nomads to the ground today, they are a mixture of some old heads and a lot of new.

With some players missing from the last 2 games, Matty Walker, Luke Smart and a few more, it gave Gregory Oba, Ryan McDonald, Harley Kenny Costello, Wendel Moyo and the returning Ahmed Mohamed their season debuts on the bench.

For the 1st 25/30 minutes the lads were just not at the races, Nomads went full power and pressed everywhere while we kept the ball and tried to get into our rhythm, there was a lot of wayward passing in the attacking third and gave Nomads possession who straight away launched it for the striker to chase.

One caught the geriatric duo sleeping and split them in half like a hot knife through butter and the striker broke through and lobbed the advancing Isaac King giving him no chance.

This seemed to spurt Heyford into life, Mr Everywhere, Bien Kayij (man of the match) won the ball went round a couple and struck a screamer from 30 yards which flew into the top left hand bins of the posh new box goals like Haleys Comet (that only happens every 2 to 300 years aswell !!).

We then pressed hit the bar and missed some more.

HT 1-1

The 2nd half saw us looking for the winner, we were guilty of some blatant misses and their keeper was kept busy.

With the crowd getting twitchy they started calling for Ahmed Mohamed, he came on and within 2 minutes he picked the ball up wide on the right got at the full back teased him then went round him and hit another screamer from the edge of the 18 yd line with that wand of a left peg, ala Saka, and it smashed on the underside of the bar and into the volumnous blue and black net, a typical Ahmed special.

Nomads never stopped and kept the pressure up, with all the subs on we again wasted chance after chance, Gregory Oba was guilty of one that will give him nightmares and the lads didn't let him forget afterwards in the bar lol.

Another sterling showing from young Keeper Isaac King who keeps growing and growing.

Not the best performance but a big win and Nomads will win more than they lose, and we wish them the best for the rest of the season...we just wish they had told us how young a lot were and dont drink and we would not have put so much after game food on....never mind Amos took care of it 👀😉
