Wedmore U15 came up just short against a strong Street side in a good-spirited village fixture on a very hot sunny morning.

Wedmore won the toss and decided to put Street in to batt first, posting a healthy 107-5 from their 20 overs. Street got off to a solid start while Street’s middle order chipped in to push the total past 100.

Despite the runs on the board, Wedmore kept plugging away in the field and never let things run away from them. There were wickets shared around for the bowlers with plenty of effort in the field kept spirits up, with good backing-up and plenty of encouragement throughout.

Chasing 108 to win, Wedmore’s reply got off to a difficult start with wickets falling regularly, but there were plenty of positives with the bat. Useful contributions came throughout the order, and although no one quite managed to go big, the team battled hard to finish on 95-8 from 19.4 overs, just short of the target.

Street bowled tidily and made scoring difficult at times, but Wedmore never gave up and kept the game competitive right to the end.

In the end, Street came away with the win, but there were lots of encouraging signs for Wedmore — good effort in the field, wickets shared around, everyone got involved and gave it a go.

Special thanks to Bryce for helping to field for Street when they were a man down. Matt Drew for Umpiring, Wayne (Street Coach) for Scoring Gem for the Cakes and of course Gordy the water boy - a very important job given the heat!

Final score:
Street U15 – 107-5 (20 overs)
Wedmore U15 – 95-8 (19.4 overs)
Street won by 12 runs

A weekend of victory for Wedmore CC

The first team hosted Winscombe on Saturday. It didn’t start great when they loss the toss and got put into bat. There was a quick fall of wickets to start, with Jack Tonkin (H M hole contracting) coming in at 5 to save the day! He came out swinging hitting 48 (70) unfortunately he got out and everyone else was not too far behind. Wedmore scoring 126/ all out off 30 overs.

They then came up to bowl, and they came out with an attack! Managing to take wickets quickly there were some fantastic bowling performances Steve Andrews 4/16 (The Children’s practice), Billy Halford 3/26 (The Whiteheads), Martyn Boley 2/14 (Wrights Timber) and Josh Burgess 1/12 (T Attwell Drives). Bowling Winscombe all out for 93 runs.

Another win in the bag for the First Team!

Man of the Match: Jack Tonkin (H M Hole contracting)

The twos traveled to Temple Cloud and fielded first. There were some fantastic bowling performances, Fynn Monson 2/27 (Penny Burgess), Xavi Cook 1/26, Matt Drew 1/28 and Alfie Lavender 1/29 (Phil and Jo Halford) with Temple Cloud ending on 166/6

Then came out to bowl and it looked worrying for a bit! With our first three batters falling first and being 23/4 it all came down to Pip and Matt. They came out swinging and managed to bring the twos to victory! Pip Patch (Harris and Lee estate agents) 61* and Matt Drew 73* ending it with 2 overs to go!

Man of the match: Matt Drew and Pip Patch

The ladies travelled to Lympsham for their game, they batted first and had some great performances from Morganne Dunn scoring 14 and Olivia Ball scoring 15. They ended on 123 also loosing 6 wickets.

They then stepped up to bowl, some great performances with Issy Wilkinson 1/10 and Morganne Dunn 3/18. Bringing it down to the wire in the last over but winning by 13 runs after Morganne taking 2 wickets in the last over! Amazing play from all!

Woman of the Match: Morganne Dunn

Wedmore U13s (337/5) beat Cheddar (278/6) by 59 runs.

Ben M was the pick of the bowlers this week, conceding just five runs and taking two wickets off two overs. Miles also took two wickets with Ollie and Will also taking one. Ben, George, Eli and Will all kept it at four runs an over or fewer.

With the bat, Will (36) and George (32) both ran rampant again with Ben M also registering 12 and Wolf nine (all net). It was a bit of a six fest: George scored four of them, Will got three and Miles got two. It means George has reached 171 net runs for the season now with Will also crossing the 100 mark with 123.

Lots of other highlights too; Miles work in the deep; Marina trebling her total from last match; some tidy work behind the stumps; two catches and a run out from Will (and a spectacular catch that was sadly a bump ball); a run out and a catch from Ben S.

Wedmore U13s (282/9) beat Wembdon (229/9) by 53 runs on Friday evening. We bowled exceptionally well and certainly did more than enough with the bat. Highlights with the latter included George’s 43 and Miles' absolutely wonderful 34, although Coco, Ollie and Will also made important contributions to our total. Coco, Miles, George and Marina also all took a wicket each! Eli ended up the pick of the bowlers with 3/6 off three. As you'd expect Will was spectacular behind the stumps and George was great too. A great victory - particularly sweet with our debut star, Marina, getting not only her first run but also her first wicket! Thanks to Jason for the umpiring. Rachel for the cakes. Harry for helping with scoring.

It was a tale of two halves for Wedmore this weekend!

Let’s start with the good half! The first team were hosting Cranmore and won the toss and elected to field. Some very strong bowling performances, bowling was opened my Martyn Boley (Wrights Timber) getting himself 2/28 off 7 overs. More wickets were collected by Josh, Steve and Sam but a very special mention to Billy Halford (The Whiteheads) who got himself 4 wickets in 5 overs. They bowled Cranmore out for 185 runs.

After a refuel they came up to bat, opening batters Martyn Boley and Jack Masters showed everyone how it was done! Masters leading from the front with a gutsy 77* but was overshadowed by Boley scoring 101*, with huge 6 off the last to bring up his ton finishing on 101* the crowd went wild! The rest of the boys got to put their feet up and dream of their beer as nothing was required from them! They managed to secure the victory with just over 9 overs left.

Another 35 points for the 1st team!

Man of the match: Martyn Boley (Wrights Timber)

The twos got off to an unlucky start, loosing the toss and bowling first. The bowling started strong with Bob Burgess and Will Ollerenshaw keeping the run level low. After drinks break East Huntspill came out swinging and were picking up the run rate fast. Wickets taken by George Drew, Will Ollerenshaw and Ian Monson. By teas Wedmore were chasing 254.

They then stepped up to bat, there were some strong performances from Nick Ollerenshaw scoring 39 and Paul Whittaker (Pip Nichols P&D) scoring 21 but unfortunately it was not there day being bowled out for 103 runs. Onwards and upwards to next week boys!
