Wedmore U15 came up just short against a strong Street side in a good-spirited village fixture on a very hot sunny morning.
Wedmore won the toss and decided to put Street in to batt first, posting a healthy 107-5 from their 20 overs. Street got off to a solid start while Street’s middle order chipped in to push the total past 100.
Despite the runs on the board, Wedmore kept plugging away in the field and never let things run away from them. There were wickets shared around for the bowlers with plenty of effort in the field kept spirits up, with good backing-up and plenty of encouragement throughout.
Chasing 108 to win, Wedmore’s reply got off to a difficult start with wickets falling regularly, but there were plenty of positives with the bat. Useful contributions came throughout the order, and although no one quite managed to go big, the team battled hard to finish on 95-8 from 19.4 overs, just short of the target.
Street bowled tidily and made scoring difficult at times, but Wedmore never gave up and kept the game competitive right to the end.
In the end, Street came away with the win, but there were lots of encouraging signs for Wedmore — good effort in the field, wickets shared around, everyone got involved and gave it a go.
Special thanks to Bryce for helping to field for Street when they were a man down. Matt Drew for Umpiring, Wayne (Street Coach) for Scoring Gem for the Cakes and of course Gordy the water boy - a very important job given the heat!
Final score:
Street U15 – 107-5 (20 overs)
Wedmore U15 – 95-8 (19.4 overs)
Street won by 12 runs
