We’re looking for players who want to develop.

Players who want to be challenged.

Players who want to improve their football intelligence.

Players who want to become faster, stronger and more effective in the game.

And parents who want their child in an environment where development actually matters.

We are currently looking to recruit committed, development-focused players for our:

🟢U18 JPL
🟣U12 JPL

Our Saturday JPL teams provide an opportunity to compete at a high level while being surrounded by a coaching environment built around long-term player development.

We don’t believe development is about collecting drills.

It’s about helping players:

→ Understand the game
→ Make better decisions
→ Move more effectively
→ Become faster in football actions
→ Solve problems under pressure
→ Develop confidence and independence
→ Compete against strong opposition

The players who thrive here aren’t necessarily the ones who are already the best.

They’re the ones who are hungry to become better.

And spaces are limited.

If your son is currently playing at a good level but you’re asking:

“Is he actually developing?”

Or if your player is ambitious and wants an environment that will challenge him rather than simply accommodate him…

Another Game day for our U18s…

As the season fast approaches we continue to build and develop at every opportunity.

We see a lot of this age group thinking they already have the tools to go forward but with over 40 years experience we know this isn’t the case.

We continue to develop key attributes to help them succeed.

THE FINER DETAILS OF FOOTBALL DEVELOPMENT ⚽️

At APFA FC, we continue to work on something that sounds simple…

Position. Moment. Direction. Speed.

But the detail is in how these four things connect to what is actually happening in the game.

We don’t just ask players to:

❌ Run faster
❌ Move into space
❌ Get there quicker

We want them to understand when, where, why and how to move.

📍 POSITION
Where are you in relation to the ball, opponent, teammate and space?

⏱️ MOMENT
When do you move?

Do you check away before the ball arrives?
Do you wait for the defender to engage?
Do you recognise the moment the space opens?

➡️ DIRECTION
Where does your movement take you?

Can you move to receive between lines?
Can you threaten in behind?
Can you create a passing lane?
Can you manipulate the defender away from the space your teammate wants?

⚡ SPEED
How quickly do you need to execute it?

Sometimes the fastest action isn’t sprinting.

It might be:

A sharp check.
A double movement.
A change of direction.
A delayed run.
A first-step acceleration.
Or simply arriving at the right moment.

That’s the detail we want our players to understand.

Because football speed isn’t just about how fast you can run.

It’s about how effectively you can move within the game.

At APFA, we’re continually refining the language we use with our players so that development connects directly to football action.

Not:

“Run faster.”

But:

“Can you recognise the defender’s position, create separation, attack the space and arrive at the right moment?”

That’s football development.

Position → Moment → Direction → Speed.

And we’re only scratching the surface. 🟢⚫️🟣⚽️

“What we have noticed….

Understanding that your individual intention (in this example movement of the ball) has a consequence to the team intention.

In this example the players releases the ball instead of making a forward run in behind they step back off.

Leaving the ball player the only option to either play 1v1 or play backwards.

We coach the details that matter!
