Nascot Wood Rangers FC Nascot Wood Rangers is a volunteer-run, grassroots football club with over 50 years of developing young talent in Watford, Hertfordshire.

We aim to foster a friendly and supportive environment for our players and volunteers. We have teams from U7 to U18.

Today Muneet of our under 15 Falcons and Tom of our under 16 Hawks had been invited as a Thank You from to play at the home of football for there participation in grassroots football.

Today, myself and @⁨Tom Gardiner⁩ were lucky enough to represent NWR on the hallowed Wembley turf, in a game organised by the FA for volunteer coaches. We were lucky enough to be selected and despite losing the game we did ourselves and the club proud! Tom got an assist too!

It was an end to end match today as the Falcons welcomed Harpenden Colts Rhinos to Westfield for their penultimate competitive game of the season.

As was expected for two teams separated by only 3 points in the table, this was a really close encounter, as had been the reverse fixture several weeks ago that the Rhinos had nicked at the death.

In a fantastic opening 20 minutes for Nascot Wood, Dexter opened the scoring in the 10th minute with his eighth goal of the season; calmly slotting under the keeper after a great through ball from Ananmay. Perhaps the purples should have increased their lead by a couple of goals as great chances came and went, but as the game started to turn it was the visitors who scored next, capitalising on a defensive mix up in the 27th minute. However, with seconds to go until half time, the Falcons regained a well deserved lead; Max making a brilliant run into the box to connect with a fantastic free kick from a mile out by Zain and volley high into the roof of the net.

A difficult period for NW endured following the restart and thirteen minutes into the second half, Harpenden equalised again with a shot from range that Alex in goal could do little about as it crept under the bar. The Falcons hit back immediately though, a minute later, as Max doubled his tally for the day and for the season (mathematicians: can you work out his season total…?) For the statisticians, this was the third week in a row that the boys had scored from a corner and the second that the set piece had been whipped in by the right boot of Haroon). The win, alas, was not to be as the Rhinos levelled once more around the three-quarter mark.

Ultimately, the draw: a fair result, and another great team performance from a constantly improving U15s Falcons side. Special mention to birthday boy Lachie who led a disciplined Falcons back line of variously Rory, Joseph, Aarav and Sohum superbly, in front of another solid performance between the sticks from Alex. Mentions also to Ananmay and Shaan who led the front line alongside goalscorers Max and Dexter and goal-assisters Haroon and Zain; and to Akira who put in another excellent battling performance in midfield alongside Joey.

A brilliant 3-1 home win today for Nascot Wood U15 Falcons against top of the table Aston Clinton Colts. Back in September the Falcons had failed to come out of the blocks quickly in the reverse fixture and paid a heavy price but this was an entirely different performance from the boys.

With an almost full squad to choose from today, there were the usual selection and formation headaches for the NW coaches and issues that come with rotating regularly during a match, but the boys showed an excellent attitude and understanding of their roles as they were asked to switch between positions.

In a very balanced first half in which the purples did everything asked of them; the difference proved to be Haroon's opportunistic strike in the 23rd minute, a goal direct from a corner as the opposition defence failed to deal with the ball being whipped in at the near post. There were too many good performances to mention them all individually, but notable in the first half were the constant threat down the right of Dexter and the interceptions made by the equally speedy Sohum at the back.

The third quarter was a nervous affair as the visitors turned up the heat and the Falcons sought to hold onto their precarious lead. Those nerves were firmly settled in the 59th minute though as right-back Aarav, having moments earlier made a goal-line clearance, stepped up to score his first goal for the club. And what a goal it was, half-volleying in from the edge of the box a partial clearance from a corner, the ball swerving beautifully inside the post. Less than10 minutes later he had doubled his tally, another outstanding finish from outside of the box, low into the opposite far corner.

As the game edged towards its close and the Falcons pushed for a fourth, Aston Clinton took advantage on the counter to score a well taken goal from the through ball, but not before an excellent double-save from Alex between the posts.

Great showing from the boys today who were unlucky not to keep a clean sheet after a brilliant sliding tackle from Lachie - ever the team's leader - in the box; outstanding tracking and interceptions from Rory over and again, and Joseph impassable at the back.

Of those not already mentioned above; in midfield, Zain, Joey, Max and Akira were the engine room of the team, the latter unfortunate not to get on the score sheet today. Up front Liam, Ananmay and Shaan worked themselves into excellent positions as the boys tried to extend their lead; Ananmay taking a ball to the face for his troubles.

Well done all! Two games to go…
