Postcards from Puglia 🇮🇹

A few weeks ago, we headed to Puglia for a little end of summer escape and a much-needed reminder to switch off.

Being self employed gives me so much freedom, but I’m learning that it can also make it quite difficult to ever fully stop. So this trip was about doing exactly that, less rushing, no teaching, fewer plans and proper time with my family.

There was still plenty of movement (because that’s what makes me feel good), but also plenty of pasta, gelato, exploring, long dinners and nowhere we needed to be.

As much as I love the studio and what I do, time away always reminds me that rest is important too.

Now, back home, back to teaching and ready for everything we have planned this September.

Yoga doesn’t always look like a yoga pose.

The physical practice, or Asana, is just one of the Eight Limbs of Yoga. The others explore how we treat ourselves and others, how we breathe, where we place our attention and how we practise mindfulness.

Santosha, Dharana, Ahimsa, Pranayama and Saucha are just a few examples of how yoga can show up in everyday life, often without a mat in sight.

The final few minutes of class matter too. During Savasana, I'll move around the room offering gentle hands on assists, grounding the shoulders, releasing the neck and applying light pressure through the temples and forehead.

This is a chance to stop moving, switch off and fully settle into the mat before you leave the studio.
