Flexibility vs Mobility — What’s the Difference?

Most people use these terms interchangeably… but they’re not the same.

➡️ Flexibility is your passive range of motion and how far a muscle can lengthen when stretched.

➡️ Mobility is your active control and how well you can move a joint through that range with strength and stability.

Think of it like this:
🧘 Flexibility lets you reach the position.
🏋️ Mobility lets you own it.

Here’s how to use both effectively in your training:

⚡ Mobility is best done before your session as it primes your joints, activates supporting muscles and prepares your body to move well.

😌 Flexibility work is best placed after training as it helps improve your range of motion, aids recovery and reduces post-session stiffness.

Train smart. Move well. Feel better.

Special shout out to these very determined ladies 🫶

With just 6 weeks notice they put all their nerves to one side and absolutely smashed their first Hyrox together.

The coaching team and members are very proud to see them stepping out of there comfort zone and owning it!

It’s even got a few of the members eyeing up their first Hyrox too 👀

At the start of last year Riaz came to us with a big goal…

Complete his first full IRONMAN.

It wasn’t the first time we’d trained together over the years we’ve supported Riaz through enduro rides, triathlons and half IRONMAN events.

But this? This was his biggest challenge yet.

IRONMAN Canada in Ottawa 🇨🇦

🏊‍♂️ 3.8km
🚴‍♂️ 180km
🏃‍♂️ 42.1km

Behind this photo are months of training.
Early mornings.
Long weekends.
Missed social events.
Countless sessions even on the days when everything felt stacked against him.

But Riaz showed up.
He stayed consistent.
He trusted the plan.
And last weekend, he crossed that finish line and earned the title of IRONMAN.

We’re beyond proud of what he’s achieved and even prouder to say we have our very own Ironman training here at Thrive.
