'l've learned that you shouldn't be afraid to change; Instead, be afraid to stay where you are in life. Stepping out sometimes is what makes you good, better, and even the best at what you're doing. lf you let fear of change rule you, you will live never knowing there is a fuller life out there that is yours for the taking.'

- George Foreman

'l had no self-esteem, none at all. There was not a person anywhere who was not better than me, in my mind. l was desperate to be taken apart, helped... shown something. Cus became like a father to me. He made me feel l mattered. Maybe he did that for Mike Tyson, too. l loved Cus. He really was like a dad. l put all my trust in him. He'd say something at a press conference, and l'd say, 'That's my answer too.' He'd put something in front of me, l'd sign it. Total trust.'

'Since I won't let critics seal my fate
They keep hollering I'm full of hate
But they don't really hurt me none
'Cause I'm doing good and having fun.
And fun to me is something bigger
Than what those critics fails to figure.
Fun to me is lots of things
And along with it some good l bring.
Yet while l'm busy helping my people
These critics keep writing l'm deceitful.
But l can take it on the chin
And that's the honest truth my friend.
Now from Muhammad you just heard
The latest and the truest word.
So when they ask you what's the latest
Just say, 'Ask Ali. He's still the greatest.''

- Muhammad Ali

'When your bIood hits the mat, it’s like life is leaving you for real. Drip, drip. You wipe it off and it keep dripping and you panic more. The first time l bIed, l thought, ‘We gotta stop this match.’ l could see my whole eyeball. It was cut all the way in there. l didn’t pass out, ’cause they told me it was just a scratch. l said, ‘That wasn’t a scratch!’ They had to give me stitches in and out. lt messed me up. But you get over that, too.'

'ln your heyday as champion, you can't 'see the forest for the trees.' As an historian might express it, you're too close to your career to get the proper perspective of highlights and background. lt was only after l had retired and had begun trying to teach others how to fight that l investigated the steps in my stairway - analyzed my own technique. And that was a tough job.'

'l'm very easy going. People can insult me but l can just let things go by. Sometimes in conversation you may make a remark and a guy will jump on you, contradicting and snapping, and you can tell he's wanting an argument and perhaps a fight. You can tell that straight away. So l look at him and say, well, you're entitled to your opinion, and l'm entitled to mine, and just let it go at that.'

- Sir Henry Cooper

'As l've grown older, l've also become a much more spiritual person than l was when l was young. l now believe that this life we lead on Earth is but a mosquito's wing compared to eternity and life is the hereafter. And l've learned that whatever time we spend on Earth should be spent helping others and creating justice and equality for all people, not out of pity or shame, but out of love for all people with the knowledge that we belong, not to many races but to one race - the human race.'

- Muhammad Ali

'After you reach a goal, you want to keep on growing. l love fighting. l always say you have to enjoy it like a boy, but play it like a man. l have nothing else. This is all l've got. l've got to be the best.'

'The dressing room, that's the war of nerves there, that's the 'no return' situation. You start preparing yourself for the event, and you convince yourself of many things and you think about the possibilities of you getting hit and what will happen if you're knocked out, all these things go through your mind. l have a lot of confidence in myself, but there was always an opening there for the possibility.'

- Jose Torres

'Did you ever have a goal and still not know where you're going? Story of my life - plain and simple. I knew I wasn't going to stay where l was, but I wasn't sure just where I was going. Most likely, though, my destination was going to involve fighting. So, at about seventeen, I left school to spend more time in the gym. I had the body, the weight and there was nothing I could see l could do as well. I was determined this time I would do it right.

When I quit school, I didn't feel guilty because even though I was lumping coal and selling vegetables, I could say out loud, 'I'm going to be a fighter, I'm going to be somebody.' lt gave me a sense of pride and dignity to at last want to be something. Got to admit I strutted a little.'
