I am Paul Whitfield, Chief Instructor of the Warrington School of Karate Jutsu. The WSKJ is a traditional karate dojo where the principles and techniques of karate can be studied in a safe, controlled environment. Both myself and senior instructor Mathew Powner hold the rank of 5th Dan Karate, and 1st Dan Jyu Jutsu. We have each been training in Karate for around 20 years, and in Jyu Jutsu Do sinc
e 2010. I also studied Wing Chun for several years. Throughout our Karate careers both Myself and Mat have been fortunate to train with, and be taught by some outstanding instructors and gifted martial artists. We established the WSKJ in 2009, and have been based at Penketh Pool and Community Centre in Warrington ever since. Small class sizes allow instructors and students to train together to develop a deeper understanding of techniques and their application. Our ongoing study of Jyu Jutsu Do with Sensei Ray Bates - 6th Dan, has greatly improved our understanding of karate, and the techniques contained within the kata. Our classes focus on the "martial" aspect of the arts. This means that whilst we do include a degree of fitness training (karate is an excellent way of developing all round fitness), we devote a greater portion of our time to techniques for "self-defence". Classes are limited in size, and for adults only (18+), allowing us to maintain a relaxed, friendly environment where advanced techniques can be taught safely. If you would like to try karate for the first time, or perhaps return to training after some time away, we would love to hear from you. You can contact us either via Facebook, or using the email address listed on this page. Paul Whitfield
