The Grand National 2026 Selections

As always a great race to look forward to tomorrow that will have us all watching, and fingers crossed all horses and jockeys come back safely! Below are 3 horses we think could hopefully give us a run for our money:

Johnnywho 16/1 - already tipped up a couple of weeks ago on this page as we looked through the trends and stats. Has already had a go over these fences and this marathon trip looks sure to suit. Our main hope for the race!

Captain Cody 18/1 - winner of the Scottish Grand National over 4 miles so the distance won't be an issue, and neither will the going. He's a quirky sort who can throw in the odd stinker, but has the talent to go close. Expect him to be out the back early and hope to creep into the race.

Gerri Colombe 33/1 - a class act, who despite carrying a lot of weight, could just be the sort to enjoy this. Should like the better ground and has won 2 from 2 at Aintree. A solid jumper, and has only finished out of the first 3 once in 18 starts. I'm hoping this one can go really well at very nice odds.

We are less than 2 weeks away from the Aintree Racecourse Grand National 2026, so we thought it would be good to look at the key statistics and trends for previous winners of this race to try and find us a lucky selection for this year!

Below we’ve highlighted the key trends to help you pick your own, and our picks are at the end. Obviously this could change as we get closer to the race and runners are confirmed.

Age profile (VERY strong trend)
• 7–9 years old is the sweet spot
• 10 of the last 11 winners fell into this bracket
• Focus more on 8–9yo runners

• Avoid very short priced favs
• 3 of last 11 winners were favourites/joint favs
• Many winners priced 11/1 to 33/1+

Weight carried
• Ideal weight range: 10-6 to 11-0 historically strong
• Be aware this is slowly changing with a modern trend of classier horses now carrying more weight and performing well.

Recent run / fitness
• 9/11 winners ran within last 49 days
• Majority had won or placed last time out
• Avoid horses with long layoffs

• Must-have proven form at 3 miles+

At Mestalla Stadium, a quiet but deeply moving tribute sits in the stands, a statue of a man in his seat.

He was a lifelong season ticket holder who kept attending every Valencia match even after losing his sight, guided by his son at his side.

After he passed away, the club honoured his unwavering loyalty by placing the statue in that exact spot. His son still sits beside it to this day ❤️👏
