If you want a better life, you’re in control of the outcome.

If you want your family to have a better life, take agency of your life.

If you want to make a difference, you have the power to do so.

All my life I was playing the victim, never taking ownership of what was going on.

but then I took accountability of the life I have now, and the life I want in the future.

I used to get so jealous and envious of others peoples success, but then I realised I have the same 24 hours as them

I’ve realised that other people succeeding doesn’t detract away from my own progress, or stop me progressing at all

I view other people doing well as inspiring now, whereas I used to be jealous at their accomplishments

It’s taken years, but that shift for me is huge. If I make the same decisions people ahead of me make, in time, I will get there too

I used to think if I acted funny and interesting people would like me.

I would seek out a lot of validation by trying to seem funnier than I was or smarter than I was.

Overthinking every single thing I would say before it came out of my mouth.

Butting in to try and provide value, trying to provide a joke to make other people laugh to feel like I was being seen.

I realised this felt hollow. This isn’t really me, it’s exhausting because I was just acting…

All I can do is show up as my true self and know people won’t like that.

I thought something was seriously wrong with me. I would panic as soon as I knew I had to speak to someone.

Because of that no one ever did want to speak to me, I became an outcast. I had the feeling I was broken.

But I wasn’t, I just needed to work on myself and my communication skills.

I changed my perspective. Instead of always thinking ‘how can I impress someone’ I changed it to ‘are they going to impress me enough for me to want to spend time with them’

I always thought I had to show up for people, but changing my perspective to one where they had to show up for me changed everything.

My anxiety went.

I understand now that I was always trying to perform for people, I would build up conversations in my head of what I would say.

But now I go in without a care in the world, and just be present when speaking to people.

It’s taken years, but I’ve finally got there.
