Warminster Running Club - WRC

Warminster Running Club - WRC Meets every Wednesday evening at 19:00 Warminster Civic Centre. Please message us to arrange a trial run. All abilities welcome!

Established for over 25 years, WRC is a friendly, local club that caters for all abilities with as much emphasis on the social element as miles on the feet. We have a good mix of male and female members, but are always keen for new faces to join the family. During the winter months we run around well lit areas of Warminster town and cover a distance of approximately 6 miles in ability groups; so

no one gets left behind. In the summer we venture out into the beautiful countryside of our surrounding area, finding paths and lanes that you wouldn't know existed! Distances are usually around 5-7 miles to suit all standards. Whether a seasoned athlete or someone just keen to be a bit more active you will always find a warm welcome at WRC.

Happy Global Running Day 🏃‍♀️ 🏃 🌎

What a day to say a massive congratulations to Jody and Paul, who officially completed their incredible 50-mile run from Wi******er to Warminster on Saturday!
They took on this massive challenge for their 50th birthdays to raise funds for Dorothy House Hospice in memory of Jody's mum. We are so proud to have you both in the club! ❤️

Congratulations to Kris for an incredible performance at the Salisbury Race for Men half-marathon!

Smashing out a time of 1:56:33, Kris placed an amazing 11th out of 101 runners overall and took 3rd place in his age category! 🥉🎉

It was a challenging, multi-terrain route that tested runners with a mix of road sections, off-road trails and hills. The course took everyone past historic landmarks like Old Sarum and ancient ramparts.

To make the feat even more impressive, the weather reached 29°C on the day, adding an extra challenge to the already demanding 13.1 miles. ☀️🥵

Best of all, it's for a fantastic cause. The event raises vital funds and awareness for the Stars Appeal Prostate Cancer and Urology fund, helping to support local cancer patients and their families.

Brilliant effort, Kris! 🏃‍♂️💨

Rounding it up for Medal Monday - Dilton Dash 10k!

What a day at the Dilton Dash!

A massive shout out to all our club members who headed out on Sunday for the Dilton Dash. Whether you were tackling the hills or cheering everyone on as a volunteer, you represented the club brilliantly!

The course is no joke with its technical trails, climbs, and plenty of stiles to keep the heart rate up! A huge thank you to the host Redfish Events for putting on such a fantastic, well-organized event!

🌟 Podium Alert!

We have to give a huge well done to Sam, who navigated the tricky terrain like a pro to finish as 3rd Female overall! 🥉 Incredible performance, Sam!

Continuing with Medal Monday!
First Time Half Marathon: DONE!

There’s no feeling quite like crossing that finish line for the first time. Arlyn took on the Great Bristol Run over the weekend and finished with a brilliant time of 2 hours and 4 minutes! ⏱️

She wanted to send a huge thank you to everyone who cheered her on:

"I’m so happy to say I finished my first Half Marathon today in 2 hours 4 minutes! 🏃‍♂️ I'm on such a high right now! Huge thanks to all of you for the encouragement and support during my training; it truly meant the world to me and kept me moving. Thank you all! x."

We knew you could do it, Arlyn! Keep that medal shining! 🥇🎊

Kicking off Medal Monday - Smiles and New PBs in Southampton!

Let’s hear it for Kris, who took on the Southampton Marathon on the 3rd! 🏅

Kris treated this race as a "training run," focusing on rock-solid consistency and perfecting those splits for a massive goal coming up later this year. (Watch this space! 👀)

Even while treating it as a practice run, Kris was smiling from ear to ear the entire way and clearly, that relaxed energy paid off. He crossed the finish line in an incredible 3:45:07, marking a brand new Personal Best! Huge congrats, Kris! 🚀

Guest Runner Shoutout!

We also want to give a massive, special shoutout to Fern (pictured here with Kris)!

While Fern isn't a club member, we couldn't let the day pass without celebrating her amazing achievement. Fern completed her first-ever marathon! 🥳 Crossing that 26.2 mile finish line for the first time is a moment you never forget.

Congratulations to our Sutton Veny 10k Runners!

What a fantastic bank holiday weekend at the Sutton Veny 10k on May 4th! A massive well done to everyone who took on the course. The energy was incredible, and you all represented us brilliantly.

We have some extra special shout-outs for two truly standout performances:

John: Taking home 1st Place overall! An incredible run and a well-deserved victory. 🥇

Jody: Finishing as the 1st Vet 50! Showing us all exactly how it's done with a stellar performance. 🏆

🇩🇪 Laura & John Take on the 🇩🇪

What started as a “nice little euro trip” quickly turned into 31.1km of hills, thrills, and… spills 🙃

After a gentle “warm-up” at Padersee Parkrun (where John clearly misunderstood the assignment and bagged 🥇 instead of taking it easy), race day began bright and early. 07:30 hotel exit, 08:30 carb-loading German buffet (strictly research purposes), and then off to the start line under the mighty Denkmal.

Five waves, thousands of runners, and one mission: survive the hills.

The race kicked off with a speedy 2-mile downhill — which, in hindsight, may have been a trap. The first bottleneck had us playing trail running Tetris, but once things opened up, it was game on. Three climbs stood between us and glory, with the second being an absolute leg-burner 🔥

Highlights included:
👏 Huge crowds in Oerlinghausen bringing Tour de France energy
🌉 A motorway bridge crossing into Bielefeld
🪜 Endless trail steps (who put those there?!)
🏰 A stunning finish at Sparrenberg Castle

Now… onto the real story.

While expertly pacing Laura (obviously), John decided to test the durability of German concrete — tripping over a speed bump at full downhill pace 💥 Elbow and hip took the hit, pride slightly dented, but straight back up like nothing happened 💅

Not content with one dramatic moment, he later added a bonus fall in the woods (less style, more confusion). A couple of “strategic loops” followed while waiting for Laura… who had, in fact, already breezed past 🤦‍♂️

Cue a blind panic last mile sprint to sneak under 3:30… only to discover Laura had finished a cool 5 minutes earlier 😅

All wrapped up with showers, food, and well-earned cocktails 🍹

Moral of the story:

- Downhills are dangerous
- Laura doesn’t hang about
- And if you’re going to fall over… commit to it

Great effort, great race, and great memories 🇩🇪💪

While the rest of London was sleeping ready for the London Marathon, Kate (in the blue top) was out conquering the streets in the most unique way possible completing the London Marathon in reverse, all through the night!

26.2 miles is a massive challenge, but doing it backwards (route-wise!) and in the dark is something else, especially navigating open roads, loose paving slabs and the odd urban fox 🦊
Fantastic effort, it looked like a lot of fun!
