How many would be interested in a grand depart for these routes in July?

14/02/2021

Unfortunately Covid stopped the event last year but hoping things will improve in 2021 for me to run the event

3 distances this time:

160km completion time 16 hours

250km completion time 36 hours

350km completion time 36 hours

These are all fantastic routes taking in some superb trails and scenery in the South West of England, all of them are suitable for gravel bikes although there are sections that will really challenge them on the 250 and 350 routes, i may go for an earlier date than october but not sure yet

Plain Suffering entries are open, i am hoping come October we will be through the worst of this crisis

Maximum of 50 spaces and there is now the 350 option if you want it, send an email to:

I have had some requests for a longer route, which I have been working on for 2021, I will now be offering a 350km option alongside the 250 for those that want a bit more of a challenge

Plain Suffering is a 250km Bikepacking loop around Salisbury Plain, starting and finishing at the Wesbury White Horse Car Park

The grand depart will take place on Saturday the 3rd October 2020 at 0800 with a rider briefing at 0745

The route is suitable for gravel bikes however there are plenty of off road sections to test rider and bike

The loop starts at Westbury White Horse and heads via imber range path and the Wessex Ridgeway to Netheravon, then on to collingbourne kingston, andover and wi******er and back via amesbury, wilton and warminster, it is entirely self supported and riders need to complete the route within 36 hours, fastest rider last year was just over 18 hours

Must carry, shelter, sleeping bag, and front and rear lights

Its a tough loop and conditions can be bad on some sections particularly around collingbourne kingston, plenty of gravel though to link those off road sections and get your miles in

Entry is entirely free but is limited to a maximum of 50 places, entry will open on Saturday the 28th March 2020
