Wargrave Bowling Club

Wargrave Bowling Club We are a friendly mixed club, with an excellent green. We play mixed friendlies at the weekend and mid week.

We also have mens
and ladies only league bowls competition matches. We also have a large licensed club house with all facilities.

On Wednesday we had a four 3 mixed triple friendly away to Three Mile Cross.

Rink 1: Philip Linstead, Jean Burton and Brian Turnbull against Anne, David and David. We lost 18 to 5.

Rink 2: Lynette Linstead, Tony Annetts and Roger Prew against Fan, Paul and Eileen. We won 31 to 22. A bizarrely high scoring game with 2 x 7 scoring ends!

Rink 3: Maurice Freeman, Heather Annetts and Martyn Mellor against Stuart, Mark and Margaret. We lost 14 to 15. We held the lead for most of the match, and after 17 ends we were 14 to 13 up.

Rink 4: John Coombes, Jim Thompson and Norah Holder against Steve, Peter and Linda. We won 19 to 15.

Overall we lost 69 to 70, which is remarkably close considering the scores.

A perfect sunny day greeted Shiplake Village Bowling Club when they came to visit Wargrave for a 3 mixed triple friendly game.

Rink 2 had quite the battle. Shiplake moved ahead on End 6 with a lead of 8 - 2, which they maintained for a while, however after end 9, Wargrave won the next 8 ends which took them 1 ahead. On the final end 18, where Wargrave were 1 shot up, the Shiplake team pulled together well, winning by 2 shots giving an overall score of 15 - 16. An entertaining game for both players and spectators.

On Rink 3, the team showed dominance from the start, staying ahead from end 3 onwards to win 21 - 14

Rink 4 had tough opposition and couldn't break the consistent wins Shiplake were achieving. Final score 5 - 19

Overall score was 42 - 50 to give Shiplake the match win.

Thanks to Shiplake for an entertaining afternoon.

Wargrave bowler David Askew took part in a County Open Singles match today, home at Wargrave against Jason Carr from Bracknell Bowling.
It was a close game to begin with but at end 8 Jason began to pull away with consistent 2 or 3 shot wins.
David made a short comeback with a few consistent wins between ends 10 and 14 however only by a single shot each time so couldn't make up the difference. Jason reached the winning 21 shots on end 19.

It was great to see David supported by friends and family too.

Hi Folks

Due to the slightly crazy weather Wargrave has had over the last 45 minutes, our Kennet League game against Bracknell 'B' has been cancelled - excessive hail on the green!

Come and see us tomorrow where hopefully our friendly 4 mixed triple against Three Mile Cross will be going ahead!

Wargrave played a 4 mixed triples friendly game today. The weather was much cooler than in the recent week, which made for a very pleasant afternoon.
Wargrave started extremely well but the latter ends got the better of the teams again and Hurst came through to win 3 out of the 4 rinks with an overall score of 56 - 78.
Well done to our winning rink of Maurice, Tony A and Norah
