RLSS UK is partnering with The Mirror on the powerful new water safety campaign ‘Save Lives for Sam’.

Working in collaboration with The Mirror and MP Lee Pitcher, MP for Doncaster East and the Isle of Axholme, the campaign aims to prevent water-related tragedies across the UK. The new campaign will lobby the government to create REAL change, and will run through to the start of the summer holidays.

This campaign urgently calls for:
• A national Public Health & Safety Awareness Campaign on TikTok and social media to raise awareness among parents and children of water-related risks
• Increased accountability for water companies, landowners, and those in control of large bodies of open water to take ownership and implement proper safety measures and install appropriate rescue equipment.
• The introduction of compulsory pre-holiday school lessons covering water safety, including the Water Safety Code, Float to Live, and Phone-Float-Throw advice.
• Progression of ‘Sam’s Law’ into legislation to require safety equipment at high-risk large bodies of water and make its damage or theft an aggravated criminal offence.

As communities prepare for summer, this is a crucial moment to make water safety a national priority.

🚨 NEW SATURDAY CLASSES ARE HERE! 🚨

Due to the incredible demand and amazing support since opening, we’re so excited to announce that we are releasing EVEN MORE classes at Ware to Swim! 💙🌊

From Saturday 13th June, we’ll be running additional Saturday sessions from 8AM–1PM, with spaces available across ALL stages — from Stage 1 right through to Stage 10 🏊‍♂️✨

Whether your child is just starting their swimming journey or looking to build on existing skills, our lessons are designed to:

RLSS UK’s advice on safe participation:
If you are going to cool off at a lifeguarded beach or an inland venue, it is important to enter the water slowly, wait until your body has acclimatised, and regain control of your breathing before swimming or venturing out of your depth.

Be mindful that the water is still very cold. When your muscles cool, it becomes more difficult to coordinate your movements and produce power; tragically, this often leads to swim failure. It is important to get out of the water before you get cold.

Wearing a well-fitted wetsuit can significantly slow this cooling period. If you plan to swim at your chosen lifeguarded location, wear a bright swimming hat, take a brightly coloured tow float to stay visible, and go with someone.

We want everyone to enjoy going for a swim, but with more and more people heading to the water and tragic drowning incidents once again highlighting the potential risks, below is some key water safety advice to help keep safe around the water:

Know the Water Safety Code

🛑Stop and think; always swim in a safe place
🏊Swim in supervised, lifeguarded areas
🌊Enter the water slowly and carefully

Stay together 🤝
Stay within reach of others, and keep children in arms reach at all times

Float 🛟
If you fall in or become tired, float on your back, breathe, relax and call for help

🚨If you see someone in an emergency:

📞 Call 999 (If you're at the coast, ask for the Coastguard, if you’re inland ask for Fire and Rescue)
🗣 Tell the person in the water to float on their back, breathe, relax
🟡 Throw them something that floats

🗣️ Helen Marney, Director of Community Participation and Health at Swim England, highlights the importance of swimming lessons giving children the skills to be safe in the water, she said: "Every summer, families head to the water together, and every summer, tragedies occur that could have been prevented. We want to change that.

Swimming lessons are not just a childhood milestone, they are one of the most important things a parent can do to keep their child safe and not just in the pool, but on holiday, at the beach and around open water.

If your child is not yet in lessons, start now. If they are, keep them going, water confidence doesn't happen overnight, but when it does, everything changes for your child, and for your whole family." 💙

🎉🌊 OPENING DAY IS HERE! Welcome to Ware to Swim 💙🏊‍♂️

Today is the day — Ware to Swim is officially open! 🙌

We are so excited to welcome our very first swimmers and families to Chauncy School Pool as we begin this amazing new journey together.

What started as an idea to bring safe, supportive, high-quality swimming lessons to local children is now becoming a reality, and we couldn’t be prouder to open our doors to the Ware community.

💙 Experienced Level 2 teachers and coaches
💙 A focus on confidence, water safety, and fun
💙 A friendly local environment where every child can thrive

As a Ware Swimming Club initiative, this is about so much more than lessons — it’s about giving children a life skill that will stay with them forever, while helping them grow in confidence both in and out of the pool.
