I’ll be adding THREE MORE classes to my existing Monday morning class, all at Forte Dance & Performing Arts Studio just 2mins outside Stortford.

You’ll find 2 classes on both a Monday and a Thursday morning; one at 8.30am and one at 9.30am - hopefully fitting around school drop offs or squeezing in before work 🤞

We’ve all seen those graphics telling us how we SHOULD, or rather how we SHOULDN’T be moving in our every day life… but you know what, they are nonsense.

Real-life movement just doesn’t look like your ‘typical’ gym-based movement, and each of us has our own individual way of executing efficient movement - and that’s FANTASTIC! We all have different lifestyles as well as both goals and barriers that may stand in our way - one of those barriers is often lack of time!

And more than that, there’s really no science to prove that it’s better or ‘safer’ to move in a way that mimics the correct ‘form’ we’re encouraged to adopt 🤷🏻‍♀️

We’re here to get you fit and strong for YOUR LIFE, and for YOUR BODY… to work towards your most efficient movement, not that of the instagram fitness influencer who doesn’t live your life!

We like to work you in different plains of motion and in different ways, depending on your goals, building your skills, working your muscles in a more all-round fashion and putting your everyday movements under pressure, to build your confidence and reduce fear of getting caught out in awkward position (that’s awkward, not compromising 😉).

45mins using our Core Momentum Trainers, to give you a hard-hitting full-body cardio workout, especially targeting the core muscles yet without a sit up or plank in sight.

It’s like a giant maraca - with each ‘snap’, in time to the music, hitting deeper and pushing your heart rate up.

Think about the feeling in your muscles as you catch a heavy bottle just before it reaches the floor, as you put an arm out and catch a child running past you in the opposite direction, as you strike that tennis ball hard. It’s THAT FEELING that the CMT helps us to harness and use to our advantage!

Plus, with just a few (and always optional) jumps, it’s low impact on the joints too!

You might have seen us using these giant maracas in our PT sessions, you may even have seen that we’ve launched a NEW CLASS using them.

But what are they? And why use them?

Meet the Core Momentum Trainer, or CMT; a central capsule filled with metal pellets known as ‘Power Shot’, plus two detachable handles.

As the CMT moves in one direction, so does the Power Shot. The force you need to use to change this direction, creating the sharp ‘snap’ you hear as the pellets hit the inside of the capsule, means that all your core muscles (yes, ALL of them, including those in your back and wrapping around your ribs) need to kick in. Plus this effort pushes your heart rate up ⬆️

Take a basic movement, one you’re familiar with performing in life, add a CMT and suddenly you have something far harder hitting. Giving you a serious cardio workout without impact on your joints, and one that will have you feeling your core like never before!

We use them in our PT sessions to suit clients individual goals and preferences - to enhance skill and build power.

Then in our CORE SHAKE DOWN classes we use them with choreographed routines to an awesome carnival inspired soundtrack and moves to work your entire body.

Think of it as a giant cocktail shaker - the louder you shake the ice, the better the resulting cocktail 🍸 will be!

And you know what else?? IT’S FUN!

I came to illuminate with 3 goals; weight loss for my upcoming wedding day, increase hip flexibility after previous surgeries, and have measurable progress in my strength.

I have achieved all this and more thanks to Claire and Kate for being so amazing and KNOWLEDGEABLE!

I have tried multiple classes and worked with other trainers, which has always resulted in pain and limping for weeks with no idea what movements exactly set it off.

I started training with Claire, who set about figuring out exactly what my hip didn't like and how we could still work so I could increase my strength around my hip to help my pain issues.

After a few months working with both Claire and Kate I finally had an arthritis diagnosis but by this point I was generally pain free and off of medication for the first time in years!

I have lost 2 stone, built muscle, increased bone density, am so much stronger and I actually like exercise! And I felt amazing on my wedding day!

These ladies have changed my life beyond belief, I didn't realise quite how much discomfort I was in daily, how often my back twinged etc until I was stronger and no longer having joint issues. I cannot recommend them enough!

Now THIS is squat skill 🙌

Absolute 👏 to this guy on my holiday; squatting LOW with a full tray of drinks balanced on one hand, then twisting and reaching to put our cocktails 🍹 on a low table.

I’ve he was posting a video of a unilaterally weighted squat in a gym, I’m sure the form police would be all over him - but real-life ‘skill’ and gym-based ‘performance’ rarely look the same.

We’re here to help you develop those real-life skills.

As a child of the 80’s I was there skipping about with my ribbon, cassette tape and exercise sheet so that I could ‘get in shape’.

At the time, with no devices of any kind, I was mostly roller skating, riding my bike, playing outside or at some club or another - like most of us - so why advertisers were pushing this kind of fitness for kids is beyond any sensible reasoning 🤷🏻‍♀️ Looking svelte in a leotard was VERY important in that era whatever your age I guess 🙄

But it also forms part of a larger picture; the subconscious conditioning that so many of us grew up with, that females needed to ‘get in shape’, a shape determined by the current trend in a world lead by men… and by the 90’s that had become waif-like Kate Moss skinny, or Pamela Anderson big boobed and teeny waisted - both impossible to achieve with a healthy amount of exercise and a balanced diet… only model genetics 🧬 could create those bodies!

So diets became increasingly restrictive and exercise, a form of punishment (‘no pain, no gain’ anyone? 😩) as woman chased unrealistic body shapes.

It’s hard to reframe your relationship with exercise, diet and, most importantly, your body, but we’re here to support you 👍🏻
