Wardle Football Club

Wardle Football Club Wardle Football Club have been a part of the village since the club was formed in 1914 and has provide football for over 100 years.

Our teams play at Rutherford Park, Dearnley and Wardle Academy on Saturday's and Sundays. The club currently has

2 Saturday Adult teams in the Lancashire Amateur League
2 Sunday Adult teams, 1st team in the Hyde,Oldham & District Sunday League. 2nd team in the Rochdale Bury & District Sunday League.
2 Adult Vets teams in the Tameside football league

8 Junior teams, age-range Under 7's - Under 1

4's all playing in the North Bury Junior Football League. An Akidemy for childeren aged 4-6 held at Wardle Academy Thursday nights 6-7pm. Club training is held evenings through out the week at Wardle Academy 3G and indoor facilities. We have an open-door policy for new players, anybody who has an interest in playing at the club, for either our adult or junior teams, can contact a member of our committee for more information. email, [email protected]

Today, Rik, our Chair, and Rob, our Secretary, attended an excellent safeguarding conference hosted by the Lancashire Football Association in Leyland on behalf of Wardle FC.

The event provided valuable insight into safeguarding, good practice, new ideas, and opportunities to network with like-minded volunteers who all share the same goal – making our beautiful game safe, enjoyable, and accessible for everyone.

A huge thank you to the LFA for organising these events, and special thanks to Rachael Murphy, Chris Doherty, Jo Ashworth, and all of the safeguarding team for their hard work, knowledge, and dedication to supporting grassroots football.

We look forward to bringing what we’ve learned back to Wardle FC as we continue to develop a positive, safe, and fun environment for all our players, coaches, volunteers, and families. 🖤⚽️🤍

As we approach the final few thank yous of the season, it is only right that we recognise someone who has played a huge part in the Wardle FC journey both on and off the pitch.

A massive thank you to J A Cryers Excavations & Groundworks and Jonny for their incredible support throughout the years.

While many will know Jonny as the sponsor of our Sunday Team kit, his contribution to Wardle FC goes far beyond sponsorship. From the very beginning of our journey, he has been there helping to improve the facilities we all enjoy today.

Whether it’s drainage work, groundworks, pitch improvements or simply lending a hand when needed, Jonny has been instrumental in helping transform our pitches into the quality playing surfaces that players, officials and visitors see week in, week out.

🏆 A Special Thank You to Our Leagues & County FA 🏆

As our 2025/26 season comes to a close, we would like to take a moment to thank the organisations that make grassroots football possible week in, week out.

A huge thank you to the Rochdale,Bury & District Football League, the Lancashire Football Association and the Lancashire Amateur League for all of their hard work, dedication and support throughout the season.

Behind every fixture, registration, cup competition, disciplinary process and league table is an army of volunteers and staff who work tirelessly to ensure grassroots football continues to thrive. Their efforts often go unseen, but they are essential to the game we all love.

It has been a wonderful season filled with competition, friendships, memorable moments and plenty of football. We are proud to have competed within your leagues and under the guidance of Lancashire FA.
