To start the weekend properly, Amanda, Caitlin and I made our way to Basingstoke on Friday to support the wonderful Sarah at Happy Boots Line Dancing!

There was dancing. There was laughter. There are 'stories', which have since been carefully locked away for the protection of everyone involved.

The next dance night is on 4th October, if anyone fancies joining me. It’s always tremendous fun, and Sarah is a fantastic instructor whose teaching style is tip-top and whose chaos is of the very highest quality!

I have some rather exciting news!

Our little dance, Together We’re Golden, the first dance I’ve ever choreographed and published, packed its imaginary suitcase, crossed the Atlantic and somehow found itself in Indiana this weekend, being shown to the judges at the World Dance Showdown.

There were 40 original choreographies submitted in the Beginner category, the largest category by far, and our little dance came 16th!

I’m ridiculously proud of it. It took a very long time to persuade the steps, the music and the fun to cooperate with one another, and I was absolutely terrified when I first taught it to you all. Fortunately, none of you ran away screaming (unlike last night), which I took as a promising sign.

Not bad for a little dance that began in my head and could quite easily have stayed there causing trouble. 💛

Someone obviously needs to get a job… I’m clearly missing the classroom a little too much. 😂

So naturally, last night I decided we should give an improver phrased dance a go. Because apparently teaching normal dances wasn’t causing quite enough chaos.

And do you know what? You were all BRILLIANT! 🙌 Lots of laughs, lots of giggles, a few “WHAT ARE WE DOING?!” faces… but we made it through!

Don’t worry, I promise I’ll only bring this one back out for special occasions.

Although… my definition of “special occasion” may be worryingly broad.

Well done, team! 🤠

Absolutely LOVED being greeted by a pony yesterday while we were out social dancing with Sideliners LDC in East Hanney! 🐴😂

I mean… if there’s ever been a more appropriate welcome for a bunch of line dancers, I’d like to see it.

Great dancing, lovely company and bonus pony. What more could you possibly want from a Sunday? 🤠

☀️ THE GREAT DAYTIME DANCING EXPERIMENT… 👢

People keep asking for more!

More dancing. More practice. More opportunities to hear my dulcet tones as I shout restart or tag!

And then there’s winter.

Winter, as we know, arrives in Britain every year as a complete surprise. Suddenly it’s dark at approximately 2:17pm, the car is frozen, it’s raining sideways and leaving the house after you've put your comfy clothes on requires an unreasonable amount of bravery.

So I’ve been thinking…

What if we simply danced BEFORE the darkness gets us?

I’m considering starting some morning and/or afternoon line dance classes around the Wantage area.

And before anybody panics, our busy and brilliant evening classes aren’t going anywhere! We’ll still be dancing away every evening as usual.

I just thought…

Why not add MORE?

Nothing is booked yet. No halls have been harrased. No unsuspecting village committees have received an email from me beginning “Hello, I've had an idea…”

But if there’s enough interest, I’ll get it in motion.

You don't have to already dance with us either, if you've been thinking about giving line dancing a go but evenings don't work for you, this could be your chance.

Comment below, tag someone who might be interested, or give me a shout.

If enough people say yes, I shall find us a hall.

And thus another perfectly innocent idea will inevitably become "A Thing." 🤠

🎂🥳 IT’S MY BIRTHDAY WEEK! 🥳🎂

Which obviously means I’ve used my birthday as an excuse to cause a little extra chaos in class this week. Because there has to be some advantage of getting older. 😂

We’ve got some NEW DANCES coming your way, including our class birthday dance for anyone who hasn’t learnt it yet! 🎈

And for my Improvers, we’re dipping our boots into the wonderfully chaotic world of PHRASED DANCES with a proper party-style dance. Don’t panic… there is a pattern. Probably. Somewhere. 🤣

There’ll also be plenty of our favourites thrown in because, well… it’s my birthday and I get to choose! 😈💃 I have some fun song swaps for you!

I’ve absolutely loved our Dolly-fied week of song swaps! 💗✨

In fact, I’m VERY tempted to make Song Swap Week a regular thing over the coming months… watch this space!

Anyway, your danced list is below so you can see just how much we managed to squeeze in this week!

It was also lovely to see some new beginners joining us. ❤️ I know those first few classes can feel a bit daunting when everyone else seems to know what their feet are doing and yours appear to have forgotten how to walk forwards. But give it a few weeks! The repetition really does start to work its magic and suddenly things begin to stick. Keep going, you’re doing brilliantly. We all started in the exact same way!
