Supporting each other in this sport is what snorkelling is all about. Lending our club boat Milly to Dorking Snorkelling Club when theirs was out of service was a no brainer. Our original vision when we purchased her was to be able to help support the other clubs in Surrey, who we are always close to and share ideas, support and advice. Its a great big family.

It is with deep regret and a heavy heart that I have to inform you that one of our staff members has passed away.

Stuart Whitmore, father to our Training Officer Will, was a valued and dedicated member of our Open Water team, acting as Boat Master for our club boat Milly and occasional minibus driver on our trips away.

Many of the older members of our club will have benefitted from his calm guidance whilst afloat on our trips to Dorset. His keen eye for safety and his skill at the helm, monitoring our dives and ferrying students from one site to another, will be sorely missed.

He was a gentle soul with pleanty of time for the kids at the club. A qualified RYA Boat Handling and Safety Boat Instructor. He was a patient trainer who allowed all those under his care to get the best out of his time with him, always generous with advice and immense knowledge of boat craft.

Stuart was not only dedicated within our club, he was a devoted father to Will and gave widely to the community as a former Spelthorne Borough Councillor (Green Party), and Instructor with the charity Sailability, teaching young children with disabilities how to sail. He was also a dedicated Firefighting Officer and Specialist Fire Investigator for over 30 years with the London Fire Brigade.

He passed away in the early hours of Sunday 9th August 2026 after a short but valiant battle with lung cancer.

Our love and condolences go out to all who knew and loved him, friends and family alike, but especially to our instructor Will, his son.

Will is being supported by his family and by me as his friend.

What an amazing night we had last night! Celebrating 60 years of a club that has changed the lives of so many people over its time. A wonderful party, great food from Dicko's Diner and Pablo the Ice Cream Man. An amazing venue thanks to Hersham Sports and Social Club and an evening catching up with members both past and present. Truly amazing seeing where everyone is now in their lives, and it has been an honour to have been part of that.

Fantastic start to the openwater season at Wraysbury Dive Centre today with a couple of wonderful dives for some first timers and also a few old timers. The place was teaming with life as well, never seen such big fish! We got lucky with the weather too, not too hot, and not too cold. Most importantly the rain held off too! We also got to practice with one of the new cameras to get these shots. A promising start to the coming weeks.
