Visit from Monica Harding MP to discuss the Thames-Watch initiative - see https://www.facebook.com/MonicaHardingEsherWalton . Monica was very interested to hear the results of our sampling for E. Coli over the past year and strongly supports our initiative.

The Walton junior girl’s quad has made history by becoming the club’s first women’s crew to qualify for Henley Royal Regatta. The crew of Typhaine, Charlotte, Becca and Cesca will race in the Diamond Jubilee Challenge cup on Wednesday after a last minute alteration to the draw!

The boy’s quad of Eddie, Joe, Richard and Gianluca had their final session at Walton today before heading to Henley tomorrow to train before racing starts later this week.
The boys trained against St. George’s College this morning to get some practice in after a fractured season with little racing.
They will race this week in the boat named after Angus Groom who won a silver medal at the Tokyo Olympics just last week!

Congratulations to the sixteen local twelve to fourteen year olds who completed the junior beginners course this week. It was great to be able to run a nearly-normal course. And yes, seven of this octo are on their fourth morning's sculling!

Congratulations to Walton J13 Igor Tokarczyk, who won the silver medal in Year 8 3 minutes and bronze in 500m at the British Rowing online Indoor Champs on Sunday. Igor’s amazing 500m time of 1:35.8 is a British record and would in a normal year have won him the gold; but because this year’s online format allowed an unusually large number of overseas competitors, he was beaten by 0.9s by a Latvian sculler and by 0.5s by a Ukrainian, who also won the 3 minute event.

This is a big challenge for an important charity - good luck to Maddy and to Alex.

One of our members and former junior captain, Maddy Jackson is taking on a colossal running challenge over the next four weeks. Maddy’s Brother, Alex, who is part of the Junior men’s squad at the club, recently received the news that he has a primum Atrial-Septal defect and Pulmonary Hypertenstion (Alex has a large hole in his heart) that will require urgent surgery. Maddy is therefore raising money for the ‘Cardiac Risk in the Young (CRY)’ to promote heart screening programmes and vital research. Although spirits are high in the Jackson household as they have already smashed their fundraising target of £1,000, they can only be lifted by more generous donations. Please spare a minute to read more into Alex’s story and Maddy’s challenge via the link below and please also consider a donation towards the cause.
