1s crowned champions and 2s record their highest league placing for 3 seasons 🏏

At home, the 1s were crowned HEBL Premier Division champions after all games across the division were cancelled due to the weather.

Away from home, the 2s made the short trip to Harlow Town for the only fixture that managed to beat the weather across the entire league. Batting first in a 16 over game, NCCC reached 86-8 with Rupesh top scoring with an entertaining 36. With the ball, NCCC made a great start with Bikku striking with his first delivery. Rivers J (2-29) claimed two wickets in two balls to give NCCC hope, though Harlow Town eased to a 7 wicket win inside 12 overs to finish the season as champions. The 2s ended the season in 7th place in Division 2 after 8th place finishes in the last two seasons.

At home, the Sunday XI fielded first as Kashmir CC declared on 220. Hughes (2-11), Story (2-49) and Setford (1-62) with the wickets. With the bat, NCCC made a decent start reaching 70-2 though lost regular wickets before holding out for a draw on 132-8. Shukla Ar top scored with 44.

Last weekend’s results

Away from the home, the 1s won the toss and elected to bowl first. Despite taking a couple of early wickets through Blair, NCCC found themselves on the back foot after an onslaught from Malik who smashed a 100 in a little over 40 balls. With Thaxted well set at 180-2 after 23 overs, NCCC fought back strongly as a team after drinks with Quinn (3-39) and Barker (1-38) taking quick wickets. Tight bowling at the end from Taylor and Stevens Ja saw Thaxted finish on 249-9 off their 45 overs. With the bat, Mackie and Blair started solidly before both fell with the score on 42. Stevens Ja continued his excellent batting form with a brilliant century as he and Quinn combined to put on 145 for the 3rd wicket. Useful contributions from Shukla Ar and Rivers J saw NCCC home to win by 3 wickets with just under 4 overs to spare. Going into the final weekend, a win for the 1s will secure the Premier Division title.

At home, the 2s also fielded first though struggled to take regular wickets as Sawbridgeworth finished on 301-2 off their 40 overs. In response, NCCC batted bravely and positively to keep up with rate throughout. Podapati (75) and Kadwill (57) scored brilliant half-centuries and were supported well by Shaik (48) and Cheemarla (32). However, NCCC fell just 5 runs short of what would’ve been an incredible chase. Going into next weekend, 8 points would secure Division 2 status for the 2s next year, otherwise we’ll be reliant on other results going our way.

Chasing 144 to win, NCCC batted positively reaching the target inside 19 overs for the loss of only 2 wickets. Mackie (53) and Stevens Ja (53*) both scoring half centuries.

Away from the home, the 2s batted first and lost of a couple of early wickets. Podapati (33) and Cracknell recovered well, putting on a decent 3rd wicket partnership.
