BEFORE WORK — FROM THE L-SHAPE 🎣

It’s not often that the management team at Orchid gets to be behind the rods at exactly the right time and in exactly the right place. Running the complex comes first, so our own fishing has to be slotted in around the swims that are available.
On this occasion, Kev—our fishery manager and a legend well known around the complex—made his opportunity count.
An early-morning bite before work from the L-shape produced this beautiful 40lb Oxford mirror, caught around seven and a half to eight wraps out towards the island.

A proper old Orchid carp and a thoroughly deserved result for someone who puts so much into this place every single day.

Well done, Kev. It’s about bloody time !!!!

Stocked into Orchid in November 2024.
Fast forward to 24th July 2026 and this one hits the bank at 29lb 9oz.
For us, this is exactly what all the work behind the scenes is about. Water quality, oxygen levels, careful stock management, habitat work and, just as importantly, providing a stable, consistent source of quality food throughout the year.
There are no shortcuts with fishery management. Get the environment right, keep it right, feed them properly and let the fish do the rest.
This one is now knocking firmly on the door of 30lb — and when it finally crosses that line, the angler lucky enough to catch it gets the privilege of naming the fish.
Another one quietly coming through at Orchid.

27lb 8oz Dinosaur from Alamo this morning for Spencer Challis. These type of old Oxfordshire carp is the reason why we have so many anglers travelling across the country to fish Orchid Lakes. Chasing chunks old chunks !! Crusty mirrors.
