The Weekend
-
On track Monday - Friday, then come the weekend, you completely fall off. Sound familiar? As unfair as it is, a weekend of splurging can undo a week’s work. (Not to say there aren’t situations where relaxing is absolutely fine - family events, holidays, social events. However if you are serious about progress then most of the time you have to practice willpower through the weekend too). Here are a few tips to help you stay on track on the weekend.
-
🍕 Calorie Borrowing/Cycling - struggle with cravings on the weekend? Lack of routine and structure can leave you a little more food focused. Calorie borrowing / cycling is simply reducing your intake by a couple hundred calories Monday - Friday and then simply adding these calories onto your intake over the weekend. The overall weekly energy balance is the same meaning you can enjoy more food at the weekend when you struggle the most. 500-1000 calories extra spread over Saturday / Sunday might make all the difference to your ability to adhere.
🍔 Be Creative With Macros/Food - food boredom can kill adherence. You ate the same thing all week and now it’s the weekend and the thought of chicken and rice is making you sick. Learn to be creative with food choices and macros to stay interested and enjoying the process, homemade pizzas and burgers using wraps and lean meats can help massively. (I’ll put some of my favourite recipes up In the near future, it may not be the same as an actual takeaway but it does help)
🏃🏼♀️ Stay Active & Stay Busy - Boredom can lead to heightened food focus. You may just be bored rather than hungry and find yourself raiding the fridge. Stay active to keep your expenditure up and stay busy to avoid the boredom eating. Out for walks, bowling, cinemas, anything.
💧 Maintain Weekday Habits - stay on top of your weekday habits. Keep your hydration levels up and carry on with your training regime. This may keep your goals in mind.
💭 Be Mindful of Your Goals - understand and remind yourself why you’re doing it. Keep focused and practise discipline. If you eat out or are at a social event it doesn’t have to be a complete write off. Stay accountable and choose wisely. (Whilst having fun) & if you do slip up, understand one bad day doesn’t mean the weekend is a write off too. Enjoy it, don’t regret it and straight back chasing your goals the next day.
