Wakefield Rifle & Pistol Club

Wakefield Rifle & Pistol Club Promoting sportsmanship, competition and training in pistol and rifle marksmanship. Air, Fi****ms and Black Powder shooting. Beginners welcome.
(1)

Wakefield Rifle and Pistol Club actively promotes a wide range of shooting disciplines - beginners are very welcome. The club has four indoor ranges ;
Air range one - 10m, general purpose with paper and reactive targets
Air range two - 10m, dedicated to match practice
Fi****ms range one "Newbury" - 25m Mixed air and fi****ms, precision shooting
Fi****ms range two "Emmerson" - 20m Mixed air and fi

****ms, turning and advancing targets, general purpose

Fi****ms energy limits
Newbury - 475ft/lbs and 1750feet/sec max, all calibres under .454 Casull
Emmerson - HME energy limit applies : 3319ft/lbs and 3250feet/sec, any calibre including full bore rifles

There are many shooting disciplines to take part in and age is no barrier, we have members literally from twelve to seventy plus, with a strong family membership. Shooting is one of the few sports where age and to some degree disability has no reflection on performance. Our junior members often out-shoot their mum or dad. Precision target shooting is an internationally recognised sport, which has an impeccable safety record and at WRPC we pride ourselves on this safety, whilst promoting sportsmanship and training. It's also a lot of fun. Both air & firearm ranges offer disabled access. We also offer a club armoury, club waiting room & toilets plus we are part of the College Grove Sports Facility which has a full service bar offering refreshments and snacks. Thinking of taking up target shooting? Beginners are very welcome! The club has Wednesday nights dedicated to prospective new members and those probationary members that have recently joined the club. These sessions provide you with instruction on safe handling of the fi****ms and conduct on the range, along with the opportunity to shoot live ammunition. Our club is very popular. New inductees must attend a mandatory safety briefing with their first shooting session - this must be booked in advance to allow time for police background checks. We would therefore ask people attending for the first time to reserve their place using our automated online booking system. Visit our main website http://www.wrpc.co.uk/ and click the BOOK NOW button to get started. Families and juniors are welcome but the youngest we can consider is twelve years old. Parents or guardians must accompany junior members on the range whilst they shoot, there is no need for the parent to become a member themselves. (Though we do encourage it!)

Don't worry about recoil and noise. The .22 rimfire rifles we use have very little recoil and the club will provide hearing and eye protection. You can take your shot targets home if you like as a souvenir. We recommend you have a good look around the website. If you're interested in coming along and giving shooting a try, reserve your place using our automated online booking system. We work closely with both West Yorkshire Police and The Home office to ensure the safety and the security of this sport. We do NOT condone unsafe behaviour. If your intention is NOT to pursue shooting as a serious hobby then we would request that you do not attend the club. Online Booking System - http://www.wrpc.co.uk

WRPC has a Mini Rifle match and/or practice at the start of every month.

This week we set up a fun stage after the serious practice was completed. A bit of fun using the club .22 underlever with iron sights, 6 rounds on the centre targets through the aperture then transition to the competitor's main rifle and engage the two outers.

Surprising how many competitors forgot that the underlever isn't a semi-automatic 😆

Next week : Full Bore Civilian Service Rifle competition at an MoD range, looking forward to that one!

Busy weekend for WRPC ...

Saturday : Full bore shoot at Strensall ranges conducted successfully and look who one of our members found ... one of the native Adders! Rare to see these shy creatures but it was so hot this one was casually out and about. What a highlight and a good day's shooting too.

Sunday : reloading course, another 10 members have now completed our reloading course. This course is free to full members and teaches the basics of hand loading pistol and rifle cartridges, with members constructing and firing their first ever hand loaded rounds on the day. Pass rate 100% !

WRPC - Somewhere new – Eskdalemuir (near Lockerbie) long distance range.

We do like our long distance rifle challenges ...

Our first ever trip to the range managed by Gardeners Guns about 13 miles to the south west of Hawick, near Lockerbie.

Excellent day was had despite 33degC temperatures, very unusual for being half way up a mountain in Scotland. Good job Baz brought a gazebo or we'd have all melted - cheers pal!

This is a private range (not MoD) so high power rifles can be used. Multiple steel targets are presented from 200m all the way to 1100m with a small 18 inch and large 75 inch target at the mile.

On the pictures you can almost see the larger of the mile targets, the smaller one is invisible at this distance - good scopes are required.

All sorts of rifles and calibers were shot from the relatively small .223 right up to mighty powerhouses like 7mm PRC and .338 Lapua Magnum. Quite a few more members now hold 1 mile bragging rights - spot on!

Superb day and we'll be booking this range again in the future.

WRPC runs another successful Civilian Service Rifle competition.

A most excellent day was had by all competitors - yes, competitors, we run this as a friendly club competition.

Shooting details included for example starting prone with 10 rounds in the magazine, rifle safe, then in 60 seconds advance 100 yards to the next firing point and adopt the ready position. Targets then appear for five exposures of six seconds each, put two aimed shots into each exposure. Us older guys were sweating a bit after that, we've not used to exercise.

Many members were shooting modern AR15 sporting rifles and were achieving good scores.

Several members had acquired Lee Enfield rifles in .303 caliber to compete in the Historic Rifle class. Not easy putting 10 rounds rapid fire onto limited time exposure targets with iron sights but we all said we can't wait to do it again. Some interesting Lee Enfield variants were shot, some dating from the first world war, some from the second world war, all still shooting accurately and operating perfectly.

Good fun was had by all and it looks like we may be putting a team into the Imperial at Bisley for CSR historic rifle next year - more practice needed, we'll see!

Thank you to the club officers, RCO's and volunteers who make these events run like clockwork. Well done chaps!

Another reloading course ran for our members.
This comment from one of the attendees says it all
"
this is just a quick email to say how much I loved the reloading course at the Club. Paul delivered a wonderful course, and his ability to efficiently deliver a combination of verbal, visual and practical application of the subject matter made the whole course simply superb. The six hours just flew by, and I left with a real confidence that I can start the learning process of reloading with a fear free and safe mindset. I can only say it was a brilliant, fun, informative and thoroughly enjoyable experience from start to finish, and that was down to Paul.

Thank you and kind regards (name removed for security)"

Nice, thank you!

Clips from an informal mini-rifle competition at WRPC.

Fun, fast, dynamic shooting with multiple targets scored for speed and accuracy.

Great fun, and it's indoors on a heated range.
