Another busy session at WFC this morning with 4 pitches and 47 players plus NOD so 8@6. Thanks to MichaelC, MickW, Glyn & RichS who all assisted as referees.
Good to see Craig back but he pulled a muscle and retired after the first game.
It’s getting to be a challenge to do the reports with play across the 4 pitches and I usually only see 4 or 5 of the 8 teams in action. I try to give the new attendees and standout players a name check but we now have so many decent players in action with quite a number of the lads who play in the competition teams.
Today was such an example - AndyS, RichS, ChrisB, Ozzy, PaulL, Oli, Craig could, and indeed do, feature in the 50+ teams. At the other end of the age scale we had Rookey, PeterE, JJ & DavidB who are all 75+ and still wily and solid competitors …
JoeTaylor and KeithBest who are new attendees were playing and BarryH and Bren were back from vacation and looked well. Know MickW is now away for 3 weeks so we have plenty coming and going as we approach the main holiday season.
Another top session with games played in good spirit and again thanks to the referees who helped keep all on track with some sensible and well managed decisions.

We held the monthly Committee meeting on Wednesday and one of the topics discussed was the First Aid provision at the Social sessions and indeed competitive events held at WFC
We have had 3/4 major issues over the nearly 12 years we have been playing and by good chance, good fortune and good luck we have been able to respond successfully to those challenges. Thankfully some of our members who have had some medical training and/or a medical background stepped forward and helped us respond successfully to those incidents.
Following the last major issue we arranged for a demonstration from West Riding Fire Brigade about Defibrillator usage that 30+ members attended.
We will be looking to repeat that specific event on a regular basis.
It has prompted us to review
- would any member with experience in this area be interested in helping us
- what can we do to help get others to obtain some training or certification
- do we have any members with formal First Aid training
- would members be interested/attend if we arranged some First aid training
If you have any views, thought or ideas can you speak to any of the committee

PhillB has sent me a note
Could you post a “thank you” for members that bought Prostate Cancer bracelets on Wednesday and could you remind folk to bring extra cash on Friday to buy more …😉

ChrisH was missing tonight but had a couple of decent sides selected for a training game that NOD refereed.
Whites PeterI, Michelle, MarkR, Putty, GlennB, Marshy, IanR
Reds MarkC, BarryH, JohnA, TonyW, Andre, DavidH, Sean.
We got an early start so got an extra 8/9 minutes and the first 12 minutes saw both teams get chances but it was evident that the whites were going to bosss the game and MarkC was certainly the busier of the 2 keepers and he made a string of fine early saves. GlennB opened the scoring when a scruffy effort was deflected past Mark by JohnA and after 15 mins it was 1-0 to Whites. The next 10 saw both teams with efforts and IanR converted a good chance to make it 2-0 before TonyW drove a fine effort past PeterI and it was 2-1. The final 10 of the first half saw goals from MarkR and Marshy as the reds struggled to contain the whites and at half time it was 4-1.
The second period saw the reds tighten their defence but in the course of doing that they conceded a penalty that IanR drove under a despairing MarkC and after the first 10 it was 5-1 and seemingly game over. The reds however responded well and BarryH scored a goal before Marshy re-established the lead at 6-2 with 10 remaining.
The final 10 saw Reds throw the kitchen sink at the Whites and Barry latched on to a terrific pass from DavidH to score and he completed a fine hattrick with the best goal of the night when he made it 6-4. PeterI made a good save when the reds could have narrowed the deficit to one goal and it finally ended 6-4 to the Whites.
Whites had Michelle organising the defence and Sutty, GlennB, Marshy and Mark provided some much needed energy with IanR holding the ball up well.
MarkC had a top game along with Barry and JohnA and Andre and DavidH worked hard with Tony but they didn’t really test Peter until the final 10/15 minutes. Sean made a difference and organised well when he came on but the whites were good value for the victory.

Glyn went with a strong squad to Heywood for the final round before the summer break and his team came away with 10 points …
The squad included Killey, JohnMc, Glyn, Kim, DavidW, TonyBreslin and DavidW and faced 4 decent teams - all the teams in the league are capable of beating anyone on their day!!
We started against Curzon who were in 7th spot and it was a well contested and fought game but we got a chance that TonyBreslin converted and took the result 1-0
We then met Blackpool who are struggling in the relegation zone and were comfortable winners 3-0 with goals coming from TonyB2 and DavidW
Our third game saw us up against Winstanley who are 5th in the table. This was a tight game that saw us fail to score for one of the rare occasions so far this year but their keeper was kept busy and made some terrific saves to keep the score at 0-0.
The final game saw us again get off to a good start and we had a fine finish beating Burnley 3-1 with goals from Glyn, Tony & Kim. DavidW missed the final game resting a calf strain and DavidB got a start and plenty of game time as a replacement.
Our only blot on the score card today was the fact that Killey conceded a goal - understand from Glyn that a Burnley midfielder got free and let fly with a fine shot that Killey nearly reached. Am aware that MickW, Frank, PeterI and indeed MarkP are all waiting in the wings for Killey to let his standards slip and step into his place - he will need to improve!
Glyn said “We played some quality stuff yet again and am pleased DavidB got 2 full games and 2 half games as we made changes to keep all fully involved. Killey as always was effective with great distribution and JohnMc, Kim and DavidW were as consistent and reliable as always. TonyB has to be one of the most consistent and prolific scorers in the country never mind the GMWF and we go into the summer break”

Another bumper turnout at WFC this morning with 48 players plays NOD and PhillB so an easy decision to have 8@6 on 4 pitches and some interesting and competitive games followed.
PhillB, MickW, MarkP, DavidH all assisted as referees and it was great to see Brian, Dolores, JulieT and Rossi all down playing.
A new attendee in Joe Taylor who bagged a goal and a solid display from KevinAveyard who looks a tidy player.
Noel had a shocker in the first game with 3 own goals before he scored in the correct nets - Riz and MarkR had to both work hard. Bernard and AndyG were prominent for the oranges with AndyL and TonyW while JohnM , Andre and AndyLunn stood out for the whites. Charles, TonyT and DavidM played well for the blues but I didn’t get to see the reds, greens and light blues.
Another really good session so thanks to all for playing in the right spirit.
