There is a lesson to be learnt here! Do NOT copy stupid challenges you see on Instagram!
Last year, I attempted a pistol squat challenge with someone at work, over and over again. My knees were shouting at me whilst doing it, and I should've bloody listened!
For 2 weeks after trying this challenge, I literally couldn't train legs, my knees felt fu**ed! I gradually started to train again but couldn't handle squats, heavy leg press, or walking lunges. I went to a physiotherapist who initially thought I'd torn my meniscus, and we worked on this for nearly 6 months! There was some improvements, so I gently started to introduce the leg press again, but my left knee still couldn't cope with squats or lunges.
Fast forward to this year, I went to my GP and requested an MRI to find out what was actually going on. It took over 10 weeks to be seen and a further 3 for the results.
It turns out I have a significant tear in my patella and patella Tendinopathy, plus a mild misalignment.
The next stage is a GP appointment to discuss my results and a referral to musculoskeletal to create a plan for rehab.
I'm not going to lie, I'm gutted! This means no lower body training for the foreseeable!
So if you see someone wandering around with a pancake arse and massive shoulders, it'll be me! 😅
