| EAGLES COME UP JUST SHORT IN SPIRITED SEASON OPENER
The newly promoted Eagles headed into their Premier League debut wanting to make a mark against the experience of a strong side in Featherstone Colliery.
And we got off to a strong start, building some possession down the right hand side and gaining a free kick in a good position which Hinchliffe took on, with an outstanding strike finding the top corner to open our account for the season.
We continued on, finding more joy down the right as the keeper rushed out with Kelly rounding him and delivering an outstanding ball to the back post to find Taffinder-Pink to double our lead.
The visitors, took that personally, and from kick off caught the Eagles sleeping as some sharp passing found a chance which nestled in the bottom corner to cut the deficit, but the lads went into half time in the lead.
We knew a tough second half awaited but the lads held strong for a long while, with a few chances dropping our way not put away as the visitors kept pressing. A ball from the left was spilled into the box and Colliery drew the score level. With pressure still on, another ball into the box seemed to evade everyone and was put away to give our visitors the lead near the end. A final chance was tipped over the bar by the visitors but deemed there was no time for the corner, and the game came to a close.
An immense effort for 90 minutes and a lot to be proud of, with Davis taking the plaudits for a big stint at the back.
Focus switches to our second home game, as we play host to Allerton Rovers next Saturday.
