It’s coming….

Over the years, AOF has expanded, redirected and gone round in circles. The never ending experiment. The learning curve has been steep and the experience intense. But at the end of it all, is clarity. Clarity to understand that there are some unique things about our little business that aren’t easy to replicate. Clarity to finally unlock the never ending potential.

This year I’ve stepped back, learnt, planned, replanned and then planned some more. Ideas develop, improve and change, but now mid-June, the target is clear and AOF 2026 is coming.

15 years experiencing highs and lows finally getting put to good use to create the future that lure fishing retailers will need to follow.

Morning all. Ordinarily I'd be sat in the shop playing with lures right now but it is that time of year when Wadebridge is blessed with the Royal Cornwall Show. Those of you in the area that know it will understand how massive this is. Downside for us is that it means all of the roads around the shop will be blocked (or at least very busy!) so we are shut for today and naturally tomorrow as well - since we don't open on Fridays.

Business as usual from Monday 😋💥

The Tailwalk Bay Mixx SSD rods are a bit of a hidden gem if your fishing is based around estuaries, harbours, creeks and sheltered shore marks.

They’re not your classic long, open coast bass rods. They’re shorter, lighter, sharper and honestly, for the type of fishing a lot of us actually do, they make loads of sense.

Think creeping around an estuary with a small backpack, chucking soft plastics, small hard lures, metals, and creature baits.

That’s where the Bay Mixx range really comes alive.

They were built as Japanese inshore rods, so they have that lovely mix of sensitivity, accuracy and usable power. You can flick little lures around with proper control, feel what’s going on, and still have enough backbone when something better turns up.

In the shop today I was reminded about this video we shot last year that is actually really relevant for this time of year. It’s not always easy fishing, but stepping things down a bit can provide a bit of fun.

I was torn on the day we shot this one as to which rod to take. I explain my eventual decision in the video and the reason why, but the other I mentioned is this, pictured: the Tailwalk Ajist SSD 84 Float. Ignore the “float” part as it’s basically referencing the Japanese floating weights or caro rigs, but for us, the Ajist is just a mega middle-ground rod (part way between LRF and bass) that will suit to much of our light shore fishing. They’re rated to 20g (metal, not plug) and for fish that are sub-3-4lb, a brilliant rod to have some fun with: casting metals, small topwaters and of coarse soft baits in the 3-10g range. Check these out on our website too. Super cool, ultra light rods that will probably find even more fans on the bass side than LRF.

I’ll chuck a link in the comments to their page on our website too. Really nice rods!

The new Tailwalk Ajist SD rods have landed, and these are properly interesting.

This is Tailwalk doing what Tailwalk does best. Taking a very refined Japanese light game rod and making it feel like it should cost a lot more than it does.

The big thing with the Ajist SD range is weight. They are stupidly light. The S55/SL comes in at just 38g, the S63/SL is only 44g, the S68/SL is 46g, and even the longer S72/TT is only 48g.

That is bonkers.

For UK fishing, these are absolutely spot on for LRF, small metals, tiny soft plastics, perch, wrasse and general light game madness.

Heat being what it is, yesterday evening we took the boys out for a little swim and a picnic, in the river near home. Very cool watching and feeding rice grains to a little shoal of trout and seeing them grow in confidence. No rods obviously, but there’s more to being an angler than catching them!

The Tailwalk Crimson range has been a bit of a standout for us.

It sits in that lovely space where you get a proper, refined Japanese lure rod without having to spend completely daft money. They’re light, crisp, fast, and have that slightly steely feel through the blank that makes them feel much more expensive than they are.

For UK fishing, they make a lot of sense.

A two that really stand out:

Crimson S82ML-F
A lovely lighter bass estuary rod. Think soft plastics, surface lures, smaller hard lures.

Crimson S83M-F
This is probably the one that has surprised the most people. Short, sharp, ridiculously light and very usable. A brilliant all round shore rod if you want something compact but still properly capable.
