🔵⚪ RHYS COLE 🔵⚪

Another exciting player coming through at Ventnor RFC, Rhys Cole has made a real impression in the blue and white over the summer.

Rhys has become an important part of the developing Ventnor 7s squad, representing the club across the tournament circuit and gaining valuable experience against some strong opposition.

From Wi******er 7s to North Dorset, Rhys continued to step up, showing exactly why there’s plenty to be excited about for the future.

His performances and commitment throughout the summer were recognised at the end of August when he was named Ventnor 7s Young Player of the Season for 2026. 🏆

It’s been a brilliant summer of development for Rhys, but this is only the beginning. With more rugby, more opportunities and plenty still to come, he’s another name to keep an eye on at Watcombe Bottom.

🔵⚪ PRE-SEASON CONTINUES AT WATCOMBE 🔵⚪

Another big night of pre-season training at Watcombe Bottom last night, and the boys came into it strong, focused and determined. 💪🏉

The intensity continues to build week by week, with the lads putting in the work, pushing each other and raising the standards as we get closer to the start of the 2026/27 season.

There’s a real hunger within the squad. New challenges lie ahead, but the work being done now is about making sure we’re ready for them.

🔵⚪ HAYDEN LYTHGOE 🔵⚪

Since arriving at Ventnor RFC, Hayden Lythgoe has wasted little time making his mark in the blue and white.

A high-energy player who brings commitment on both sides of the ball, Hayden has become a regular presence within the 1st XV setup. His willingness to work, defend and chase down seemingly lost causes has quickly become a recognisable part of his game.

That was evident right from his Ventnor debut, where a huge chase and last-ditch tackle denied what looked like a certain opposition try - an early indication of the attitude he would bring to Watcombe Bottom.

Hayden went on to play his part in Ventnor’s memorable 2025/26 Hampshire Counties 3 championship-winning campaign, helping the club secure the league title and promotion to Hampshire Counties 2.

There have been individual highlights along the way too, including a Man of the Match performance against Lymington Mariners, while his pace, work rate and attacking threat have also seen him represent Ventnor 7s on the summer tournament circuit.

Still plenty more to come. As Ventnor step up to a new challenge this season, Hayden is another player ready to play his part.

🔵⚪ TOM SCADDEN 🔵⚪

A familiar face across the Ventnor backline and another player who has played his part in an unforgettable period for the club, Tom Scadden brings pace, creativity and attacking intent whenever he pulls on the blue and white.

Able to operate at fly-half and across the backs, Tom has become known for his ability to spot space, break the defensive line and create opportunities for those around him. Give him room to work and he can quickly turn defence into attack.

Tom was part of the squad throughout Ventnor RFC’s 2025/26 Hampshire Counties 3 title-winning campaign, contributing as the club secured promotion and earned its place in Hampshire Counties 2 for the new season.

His rugby hasn’t been limited to the traditional 15-a-side game either. Tom has been a regular part of the developing Ventnor 7s programme, representing the club on the tournament circuit and helping the side continue to grow into a genuinely competitive 7s outfit.

He has also represented Ventnor on some of the days that mean far more than results, including the club’s memorial fixtures honouring those who have left a lasting mark on the Ventnor RFC family.

Whether it’s 15s or 7s, Tom brings energy, versatility and a willingness to attack.

Another blue and white ready for the challenge ahead. 💙🤍

What a summer it’s been for Ventnor 7s.

After a brilliant campaign of tournaments, plenty of miles travelled and some seriously competitive rugby, two players were recognised for their performances across the season.

The 7s programme has continued to grow this year, with the squad improving tournament by tournament and bringing home some brilliant results along the way.

A massive well done to Joe and Rhys, and to every player who represented Ventnor 7s this summer. 💙

Another huge effort from the lads at pre-season training last night as preparations for the 2026/27 season continue.

The intensity keeps building, the standards keep rising and the squad are pushing each other every session. 💪🏉

With the step up to Hampshire Counties 2 ahead, every session matters - and the work is being put in now.

Watcombe Bottom will be ready to welcome riders with pies, pastries, refreshments and a live samba band bringing plenty of atmosphere along the way. 🥧🥁🎶

🔵⚪ JACK RUSHTON | CLUB CAPTAIN ⚪🔵

A familiar face at Watcombe Bottom and a player who has been part of Ventnor RFC for a number of seasons, Jack Rushton takes on the role of Club Captain for the 2026/27 season.

With Lewy Morton continuing as 1st XV Captain and Jack Gilbey leading the 2nd XV, Rushton’s role stretches across the whole playing group - supporting both captains and helping strengthen the connection between players, coaches and the committee.

A front-row forward himself, Jack knows what it means to be part of the playing group. His focus as Club Captain will be on player welfare, morale and communication, speaking with both new and established players and making sure everyone feels involved and able to have their voice heard.

He’ll also be helping drive the social side of the club, organising team nights out, the Dinner & Dance and other events that bring the lads together away from the pitch.

Having previously captained the 2nd XV, Jack brings that leadership experience into a wider role at an exciting time for Ventnor RFC.

With Lewy leading the 1st XV, Gilbey leading the 2nd XV and Rushton supporting the playing group as Club Captain, there’s a clear structure heading into 2026/27.

🔵⚪ ED BLAKE ⚪🔵

Few people have contributed to Ventnor RFC in quite as many ways as Ed Blake.

A long-standing player, former Chairman and familiar face at Watcombe Bottom, Ed has spent well over a decade representing the blue and white both on and off the pitch.

Taking over as Chairman in 2017, Ed helped steer Ventnor through an incredibly important period in the club’s history. During his time at the helm, he played a major role in strengthening the club’s future and helping develop the wider sporting setup at Watcombe Bottom.

But stepping up behind the scenes certainly didn’t mean stepping away from the action.

Ed has continued to pull on the Ventnor shirt, featuring across the backs and producing plenty of memorable performances along the way. Even after handing over the chairmanship, he remained part of the playing squad throughout our 2025/26 Hampshire Counties Three championship-winning season.

From helping guide the club off the field to putting his body on the line on it, Ed’s commitment to Ventnor has never been restricted to one role.

And while his work within the wider Ventnor community is well known, when it comes to Watcombe Bottom, this one is about the rugby.
