A little reflection following some of the feedback we’ve received ❤️
Firstly, the feedback has genuinely been appreciated. We asked for honesty, good and bad, and that’s exactly what we wanted.
One thing mentioned was the way I sometimes publicly address things such as dirty footwear, respecting the facility or issues around the building.
And I can genuinely understand how, particularly from the outside looking in, some of those videos might seem a little strict.
But I thought it might be nice to explain the other side of it too.
Certainty Centre isn’t a big corporate gym. It’s a small family run business that myself and Sophie have put an enormous amount of time, money and love into. Naturally, we’ve become incredibly protective of it.
To someone else, muddy shoes might just be a bit of dirt. To us, it’s flooring and equipment we’ve worked incredibly hard for. And to our members, it’s the place they pay to train in and understandably want kept clean.
That’s why the little things matter to us.
And I think many of our regular members understand that better than anyone.
They appreciate walking into a clean gym. They appreciate equipment being looked after. They appreciate people respecting each other and the facility. So while one person might see a video and think I’m being a little strict, another might think, “That’s exactly why I enjoy training there.”
Neither reaction has to be taken personally.
Anyone who has spent time with myself or Sophie inside the gym will also know there’s another side that doesn’t always translate through Facebook.
We laugh, we chat, we know our members by name and we’ve built a brilliant little community underground. Many of the people who have been with us for a long time genuinely feel like part of our little family, and we’re incredibly proud of that.
Ultimately, when I speak up about something, it isn’t because I enjoy telling people off.
It’s because we care.
We care about the building, we care about the atmosphere and, most importantly, we care about maintaining the gym our members enjoy coming to every week.
Could we be quieter about those things? Of course.
But being honest and upfront about our standards is part of how we’ve chosen to look after this place.
We certainly won’t get everything right, and we’ll always listen when people tell us where they think we could do better.
But hopefully this gives a little more understanding of where those videos come from.
It’s never about trying to be unwelcoming.
Quite the opposite.
It’s about looking after something that means an awful lot to us and, we hope, means quite a lot to the people who call Certainty Centre their gym too. ❤️
