What a day at Elkes 👏

Around 50 people came down this morning to give bowls a go — fantastic to see so many new faces on the green.

A big thank you to everyone who attended, and to our members who gave up their time to make it such a success.

We had a lot of people asking when they could come down again — so we’ll be looking to organise another session soon. Keep an eye on our page for details 👀

We’ll also be sharing our upcoming fixtures, so anyone who’d like to come and watch some competitive matches is more than welcome 👍

The green is looking superb and we’re ready to go.

If you’ve ever thought about giving bowls a try, this is the perfect time to come down and have a go 👍

The season is nearly here… and this is your chance to come and experience it for yourself 👀

Whether you’ve never picked up a bowl before, used to play years ago, or just fancy trying something new — you’ll be made very welcome at Elkes.

No experience needed. No equipment needed. Just turn up in flat shoes and give it a go 👍

The green is in fantastic condition, the club is ready, and we’d love to see a few new faces down there.

You see the green on match day.

You don’t always see everything that goes into it.

Dennis does. Every day. 👏

Down at the green day in, day out — in all conditions — putting in the work to get it to this standard.

It might look like a team effort… and for the bigger jobs, there are always people willing to lend a hand — but the majority of it falls to one man.

From cutting and maintaining, to repairs and improvements — Dennis does it all.

He’s been a constant presence at Elkes for decades, and that experience shows in the quality of the green.

Much of it done with older equipment and tools, still producing a surface we’re proud of.

So it’s only right that Dennis is the one to officially declare…

The green is open. 💚

We’re working hard behind the scenes to support that effort and continue improving what we have — because work like this deserves it.

And if this is what can be achieved already… just imagine what’s still to come.

The season is nearly here… and things are starting to come together nicely at Elkes 👀

A big thank you to our members who have been hard at work installing the new boards around the green — a real team effort that’s already making a huge difference.

And as for the green itself… it’s coming on beautifully thanks to Dens hard work 🌱

Not long now until opening day, all our members are excited to get some practice in before the season.

We are also excited to host our open day.

A big delivery and a big effort from the team at Elkes Bowls Club.

Huge thanks to Dove Valley Timber and Fencing Supplies LTD for supplying the timber that will be used to replace the boarding around the green. Support from local businesses like this makes a real difference and helps us continue improving the club for members, visitors and the wider community.

As always, the real work happens thanks to the dedication of our members. A small group of volunteers spent the day unloading the timber and getting started on the first stages of replacing the boards around the green.

A lot of what happens at bowls clubs like ours is done quietly behind the scenes, but days like this show what can be achieved when people give up their time to help the club move forward.

A huge thank you to everyone who got involved today — and thank you again to Dove Valley Timber for their support.

A huge thank you to the Uttoxeter Lions for their generous support of Elkes Bowls Club.

Organisations like the Lions play a vital role in communities like ours. Through their dedication and charitable work they continually support local causes, groups and individuals across Uttoxeter — making a real difference where it matters most.

We are incredibly grateful for their support and are proud to begin what we hope will be a strong and lasting relationship between our organisations.

Community sport thrives when people come together to support it, and thanks to the Uttoxeter Lions Club we can continue improving our facilities and growing the game for future generations.

We look forward to welcoming members of the Lions down to the green for a game of bowls in the near future.

A summer evening on the green.

The sun dropping behind the trees, the green running perfectly, and the quiet focus before the next bowl is delivered.

Bowls is a game of touch, precision and nerve — but it’s also one of the most social sports you’ll ever play.

A few ends with friends, plenty of laughs… and every now and then the unmistakable smell of biscuits drifting over from the Elkes factory next door.

There really aren’t many places quite like it.

If you’ve ever wondered what it’s like to play, you’d be very welcome at Elkes Bowls Club.
