🏸 GOOD NEWS & EASTER 🐣
Hello everyone
There are a couple of things to mention to you as we progress towards the final weeks of this term at Uttoxeter Badminton Club.
First of all, we must send our many warmest congratulations to Steph, our very dependable Fixture Secretary and Ladies team Captain for many years now, on the arrival of her new baby daughter Lydia. We wish them all the very best and hope that everyone in the family is doing well.
This Thursday is the penultimate session of club night as usual and so apart from the final couple of league and cup matches to come, we will soon be heading towards the Easter break.
However, the good news is that we are intending to continue the club sessions once again this year during the summer term and will hopefully be confirming arrangements for that to happen with the School shortly.
Finally, as usual for the last evening of this term, Thursday 10 th April , we will be holding our Easter Fun Random Pairs Competition during the course of the evening.
For those who have forgotten the rules or have never taken part before, we start the preliminaries as described below.
Preliminaries
When you arrive on the night please sign in and pick up a number card. Remember the number of this card during the evening as it is important . Also please register your name against the number on the log in sheet.
Having warmed up and when we are ready, the preliminary part of the competition will begin .
This is where everyone’s number cards for the night are put into a hat and then drawn at random to play as a pair for the first game against a similarly random pair . The pairs can be two ladies, or two men, or mixed, depending purely on the luck of the draw.
Each game is to be played to 15 only with no setting.
At the end of your first game the winning pair put their number cards back in the winners' bag and the losers do likewise into their bag.
NB Also the winners only of the game should mark the tally chart on the noticeboard against their name/ number each time.
eg Player 1 1.1.1.
Player 2
Player 3 !.1.1.1.1.
and so on.
As soon as we are ready, a new team pairing is then drawn at random with one name from the winners' bag paired with one from the losers’ against the next randomly drawn pair in similar style.
They then play the next game to 15 and then repeat the result procedure as before, eg winners’ numbers in winning bag and add to the tally chart; losers replace their numbers in the losers' bag ready for the next round of paired games.
The system continues this way for much of the evening so we get plenty of variety and a chance for all to play with different people each time and until we reach the final knock out stages later on .
At a later point in the evening we cease the preliminary stages and have the final draw ready for the knock out competition.
Also the tally chart will be finalised to see who has won the most games so far.
Knock out competition
This will depend upon the numbers of people attending as to how many rounds of competition there will be and this will be worked out on the night.
Once again the pairs will be drawn at random but this time the pairs will be fixed permanently for the knock-out matches with the winners of each match going forward to play against their opponents in the next round and so on until we get a winning and losing pair in the final match.
Each match will be to 21 this time with setting if needed
Eliminated pairs from each round can arrange their own games afterwards and each winner of these can then continue to add to their tally chart score if they wish .
However please note that no A team men's player can play with another A team men's player as a pair in the knock out stages. Seeding of these players might happen to avoid such an occurrence.
Prizes
There will be Easter themed prizes for the winners and runners up in the knock out pairs competition and for the person(s) who win most games during the evening.
If not sure of anything above , please ask me to explain on Thursday.
