BIG NEWS!!!
Firstly, I, Coachnicholson, would like to re-introduce myself. I founded the club way back in 2015 and was the Chairman until my job coaching GB Para Snowboarding meant I was no longer able to give the club the energy and attention it needed. This is when Ash stepped up and Charl took on the Secretary roles. And I’ll take this opportunity to speak about that first.
The job of Chairman and Secretary are not for the faint of heart. It requires a huge amount of work to keep running. Usually completed later in the evenings and at weekends. The jobs are unpaid and the motivation to keep going is a question of ‘if not me, then whom?’
You must believe that this is a job worth doing. Often a thankless task. But you’re always hopeful that it means something to its members.
Sadly for the club, this is Ash and Charl's time to leave. Life gets busy and other priorities, like family and work, must take precedence.
So I wish him a heartfelt thanks and the very best for the future. An exceptional skier and talented coach he has kept the ship buoyant and thriving. So Ash and Charl, on behalf of everyone at the club, thank you. And this is where I take up the reins and lead the club into its next chapter.
What next?
Unfortunately, I must begin my tenure with some sad news for our skiers, which is why I am writing to you personally. Before I volunteered for the role, I made it absolutely clear to the club's committee that I would only accept the position on one condition, that my first decision would be to bring our ski coaching to an end and focus only on snowboarders.
My reason being, I don't have the time required to nurture both. I am back in the Army doing an intellectually demanding job leaving little time and energy to do everything required to maintain both disciplines. Not least, is the constant search for ski coaches who can commit - a huge challenge ever since the club started.
What this means is that the next session, 2 Oct 25, will be snowboarders only!
Whilst I appreciate there will be much disappointment from the amazing ski athletes and their parents who consistently turned up and added so much value to our small snowsports community. I can only hope that you speak fondly of your time with the club and wish us luck. The challenge ahead is not insignificant.
Finally, if you believe you are outstanding credits for sessions purchased, then please send your bank details over to [email protected]. Our Treasurer will confirm the amount and refund you at her earliest convenience.
Finally, finally!! Whilst I have attempted to email every ski parent to notify personally of this change, I’m truly sorry if I missed you off.
Finally, finally, finally!!! I wish you all the best of luck. I hope you can find a new club and snow family to continue your sporting journey. Winter sports offer incredible access to amazing adventures plus unique and transferable skills. We are all very lucky indeed!
