Ramsey & Upwood Tang Soo Do

The Liz Watson Memorial Cup was recently awarded in class to two students.

This much sought after cup is given to the best performing student at the most recent competition. The British Nationals were held in April in Nottingham and the whole Ramsey & Upwood team performed fantastically.

Top of the pile however were Mikail Ahmed and Rhys Vaghela, who both achieved one 1st place and two 2nd places. This made it impossible to split them for this cup and so it was agreed that they will share the cup for equal time up to the next competition.

Students of the Month for the April period were Andrej Vilic and Laila Fraser.

Both had shown really good attitude and effort throughout the month, and fully deserve this recognition.

This last weekend was GBTSDA 2026 National
Championship, held in Nottingham. This was the 42nd consecutive year that the championship had been held.

It was a fantastic event, with approximately 370 competitors from all over the UK showing the judges, parents and audience what they could do. All students from every club did themselves proud.

I’m very pleased and proud to state that the 27 attending Ramsey & Upwood TSD students all performed fantastically. Excellent efforts, personal bests and multiple trophies won spoke volumes about the time and effort that they had each put into their competition preparations.

Great effort today from Joanna Luszczak and Tino Shaw who pushed themselves fully whilst taking their Black Belt tests.

They have been training for circa 5 to 6 years each to get to this first big highlight of their martial arts path.

They fully deserved the opportunity to grade for their belts, and now we await their results to be confirmed back from the World Tang Soo Do Association HQ.

Fantastic effort today by two Ramsey & Upwood students - Joanna Luszczak and Tino Shaw - who took their Black Belt pre-test.

The three hour long physical test is designed to determine whether a student is ready to go through to the main test, occurring next month.

We await their results to officially come through, but I’m confident that they both performed really well and should start to prepare for next month.

The World Tang Soo Do Association honors the incredible legacy of Chuck Norris. Our founder, Grandmaster Jae C. Shin, was proud to be his original teacher at Osan Air Base in Korea, where he earned his Cho Dan #2819 in March 1961.

We are honored that he remains an eternal part of our history. Our thoughts are with his family and the entire martial arts community as we mourn the loss of a pioneer, a student of our Grandmaster, and a friend to all. Tang Soo!
