Cornwall’s Over 60s Racketball team put in a strong performance at the Inter-Counties Championships this weekend, finishing an impressive 3rd overall 💪

After last year’s title-winning success, the team travelled to Berkhamsted with a reduced squad due to injuries—but still made a flying start, beating Northamptonshire without dropping a game.

A hard-fought semi-final against Devon saw some fantastic battles, with Nigel Bell winning a crucial five-set match, but Cornwall just missed out on a place in the final.

The team bounced back brilliantly on Sunday, defeating Essex to secure 3rd place 🥉

Huge effort from Chris Davey, Nigel Bell, and Jon Wills—showing real grit, teamwork, and quality throughout the weekend 👏

The Over 50s team was unfortunately depleted due to injuries and family commitments, but Neil and Ramsey still had a competitive showing against the country's top players.

🎉 What a day for women’s squash in Cornwall! 🎉

Well done to the 22 players who took part in the second installment of our Women’s Social Squash Tournaments.

Held at Truro Squash & Leisure Club, the day had a fantastic atmosphere, bringing together female players from across the region. With competitors divided into three groups, there was plenty of high-quality squash on display, along with clear progress and improvement since the last event.

🙏 A big thank you to Karakal Worldwide and Ridgeline Studio for their continued support, as well as the England Squash Community Fund for helping make the event possible.

A special mention goes to Abbie, the only junior in the line-up, who delivered an outstanding performance to take the Group B title.

While it’s always great to celebrate the winners, the event is about much more than results. It’s about encouraging more women to get involved in a sport that has traditionally had a much larger male presence—and creating space for players to enjoy time for themselves.

The feedback so far has been fantastic, and a turnout of 22 players is something rarely seen in recent years for squash in Cornwall. One participant summed it up perfectly:

“We spend 99% of our time doing things for others – work, family, and so on – and it’s so rare we get time to do something just for ourselves. So thank you for the opportunity to have such a fun day.”

Results:

Group A
🥇 Louise S (Truro)
🥈 Viv C (Falmouth)

Group B
🥇 Abbie B (Truro)
🥈 Emma E (Truro)

Group C
🥇 Sally L (Falmouth)
🥈 Helena B (Truro)

The prizes were presented by County no.1, Lewis V!

The next event will take place on Saturday 13th June at Falmouth Sports Club. Sign-up details will be shared closer to the time.

If you’d like to get involved in squash, please contact County Secretary Matthew Stone at [email protected] for more information.
