Please support my K2B Walk

For those of you who know me, you will be aware that I turned 50 just before Christmas and have become officially old! (the body creaks in a morning)

When I turned 40 (and following an operation on a snapped achilles), I decided to set myself a goal outside my safety bubble, so went out and bought a new bike, trained hard and undertook the Fred Whitton challenge. (only ever done it once)

This year, having turned 50 and been through an Inguinal Hernia operation in the past 2 years, I have decided to do something similar. Rather than undertake a cycling challenge, I have decided to take on the mammoth Keswick to Barrow Walk for the very first time! The K2B fills me with dread… I just don't get why anyone would want to walk 40 miles in a day and I must admit that I am apprehensive about doing it! However, as a proud Barrovian I believe that the Keswick to Barrow should be done at least once and this is the year when I plan to get my K2B badge.

I'm not telling you all this as I want kudus or a slap on the back… I am doing the event for two reasons:

1. To challenge myself.

and the important bit…

2. To support a charity as part of a BAE Systems' team organised by Amie Small called the 'The Long Haul Legends'

Our team will be walking in memory of a little local girl called Aria who sadly passed away last year at the age of 18 months from a rare and life-limiting disease. Our team are raising funds for the charity: www.thelilyfoundation.org.uk/ and we will be showing our support of little Aria and her parents who lost their little Angel too soon. For more details on Aria's story, please check Facebook for her page: Team AriBoo WARNING: You may shed a tear!

Please support my K2B walk and this worthwhile charity by donating ANY amount here: https://keswick2barrow.co.uk/donate/256592?cid2=256592

With 2 wins from 2 in Division 1, Slots have started the defence of their league title well 👏 . But they haven't had it easy, with close games against BBB and Expected Toulouse. Only Trees are Tall have won by more than 2 goals so far, showing how close eery game has been.

It is the same story in Division 2, where cup champions, Wandsworth are leading the way with 2 from 2. Hot on their heals are BAE Madrid who were relegated last season. Week 2 saw all 3 matches separated by a single goal showing how close this season will be.

Well done to Edward Footy Hands who won our Shield Trophy with a win over Trees are Tall on penalties in the final.

Congratulations to Wandsworth FC our new Handicap Cup champions 🏆

Wandworth came into the Cup with a +4 rating following a tough season in the league and this helped them progress through their group in week 1.

In the semi-final they met BBB with +3 and after scoring first, were able to maintain a lead and progress to the final.

In the final they met Snaz, again with +3 and again scored first to go 4-0 up. Snaz came back at them and made it 4-4. It looked like there would only be one winner, but Wansworth played like men possessed and hit 3 quick fire goals. In the end they won 9-5 (6-5 without their handicap) taxing the coveted Furness Futebol trophy.

Congratulations to Slots who have retained their league trophy following a final day shoot out with Snaz. Slots had dropped 4 points with draws against Eccle Pigs and Edward Footy Hands which had left the door open for Snaz if they could win the decider. Goals from Will & Joe McGladdery and Luke Armstrong saw Slots to a comfortable 6-1 win.

Edward Footy Hands moved into 3rd with a win over BBB and Trees Are Tall moved off the bottom of division 1 with a win over early flyers, BAE Madrid.

In Division 2, three teams were battling for top spot last week. Dreadnoughts win over Scouting saw them as the main challengers, but they needed to win their last game against ECC and hope that Scouting did them a favour against Eccle Pigs.

What a final week! Dreadnought got their job done with a close 4-3 win over ECC meaning Eccle Pigs only needed a draw to take the title. A strong Scouting for Goals weren't going to let the Pigs win it easy though and in an end to end match, Scouting took the win 4-2 to ensure Dreadnought took the title.

The battle of the bottom teams was match of the night with a last seconds equaliser in a 10 goal thriller. Wandsworth finish bottom, but both teams must have been happy with a thrilling match to finish.

As we reach the league split, Slots lead the way with Snaz and BBB in 2nd and 3rd. New team Edward Football Hands qualify in the top six.

In the bottom six, Eccle Pigs are the highest ranked team and Wandsworth's win over BAE Madrid means every team has a win.

The Monday Night Football season returned to the UVHS Community Sports pitches with a bang!

BAE Madrid are the early leaders after an 11-4 win over FC Copenbadly, with wins for BBB and new team Dreadnought FC.

In the big game, Dirty Little Slots won a 9 goal thriller against Snaz FC and not only take the 3 pts, but also take the Summer League title in this double header match.

Another thriller saw Scouting for Goals draw 4-4 with Trees are Tall with Summer League top scorer Jamie Beresford hitting a hat-trick for the Trees.

Snaz FC retained the Furness Futebol Monday Night Cup Competition with wins over BBB and 36 No Pope.

Scheduled to play Scouting 4 Goals in the semi final, Snaz had to adapt when Scouting got stuck in traffic getting out of Glastonbury and had to concede.

Rather than giving Snaz a bye to the final, the three semi finalist played a 3 team round Robin to determine our cup champion, with Snaz winning 2-0 and 3-1.

Well done to 360 No Pope who were runner-up in only their 5th week of playing.

DDS FC show off their league champion trophies following their victorious season in the Furness Futebol Monday Night League.

DDS FC beat Snaz FC into 2nd spot with a scintillating season. They maintained a 100% record after playing each team once and only dropped points once the title was in the bag.

Harvey Watson and Oscar Morgan both bagged over 20 goals and their tight defence made them difficult to break down at one end whilst free scoring at the other.

Well done lads 👏
