The brief for this weekend was to teach Dan and Luke everything they need to know to make an independent ascent of Mont Blanc without a guide. Having established where they had got to with their planning so far, we ran through the route in detail, discussing strategies for their ascent, huts, equipment, acclimatisation and training routes. Moving on to techniques and assessing the skills they will need we spent the most part of the weekend practicing ropework for moving together in a variety of scenarios, crevasse rescue by hoisting, prusiking and not forgetting easier solutions too. We made good use of the on site facilities with the team camping on site and hoisting and prusiking on our private crag, before moving to Whitestones for some extended moving together somewhere quick if not entirely easy to access. We were very happy some other climbers had been up there recently and beaten a trail through the extraordinarily lush vegetation on the approach!

Introducing Jack and Jonny to trad climbing yesterday. We started off with placing trad gear, then set up some top ropes so they could practice setting up and placing gear whilst climbing. They had a consolidation day practicing by themselves today, and tomorrow we will assess the progress they've made top roping by themseves, and start leading.

Out in the sun with Freddie today, who was here on holiday and wanted to take the chance to work on trad gear placements, belaying and leading. Quite a lot for half a day, but we got it all done, with Freddie placing gear on a top rope, assessing and adding to it by abseil, then leading the route. Having first done a load of work on gear placements and belay set ups. It was nice to meet up by chance with and some of the crew.
