The measure of a true karateka is determination and the ability to get back up when you’re down. These two certainly showed that today, both showing real strength and the desire to be better than they were.

Congratulations to both on their Shodan and Nidan black belt promotions respectively.

We had a great evening showing the 2nd Uckfield Brownies our wonderful art. The girls did brilliantly, they picked it up really well.

Our young karateka, Bryony, Anna and Olivia did an amazing job, taking the Brownies though our basics, some of our weapons and performing demonstrations, really showing what our young ladies at CMA Karate can do! 👊🏻

Respect to our latest recruits from the U3A in Wadhurst. All are over 70 proving it’s never to old to start karate. So good for the mind and physical aspects of becoming older.

We wish them all good luck as the head towards their first grading!

On Saturday 11th April we welcomed Eleni Labiri-Suzuki back to our dojo for an amazing seminar. We also invited old friends to join us for a a very special morning where some of our new 1st Dan black belts enjoyed an in depth look at Seishan kata.

We then were joined by our advanced students for a great opportunity to deep dive into Kushanku kata and tried their hand at Kihon Kumite Hachihonme (8).

Everyone had a brilliant time and we are so grateful for Eleni Sensei and our guest Senseis for delivering such a fantastic day for all of us!

Once again great shots from our in house tog Andrew Stears

As we bring this week’s training to a close we reflect on the first few months of the year. With promotions within our instructors, a brilliant seminar with Eleni Sensei, and lots of dedicated training from our students, including our prospective Dan grades.

Becoming a Yudansha (black belt) is sometimes viewed as the end of a long road or climbing a mountain, but really it is the beginning of a new path. It does not mark the end of learning, rather an understanding of how to learn, an achievement, absolutely, but also a realisation that this new path leads to a new destination, one that is more than just a path, one that branches and opens to new possibilities, ways of thinking and experiences.

We believe that you absolutely become a black belt, through years of learning, practice and experience, it is not something given lightly, but earned.

So for those that are attempting their first or second Dan grade this weekend, we wish you all the luck in the world and to remember something that our Sensei once said, Nanakorobi yaoki or Fall seven times, stand up eight. Don’t give up, you can do this!
