It was an immensely busy summer at Truro School, and for one week the school was delighted to welcome fencers from across the world for a residential international fencing camp.

Young fencers travelled from as far afield as Hong Kong, Germany, Turkey and Switzerland to train with a world-class coaching team in the Sir Ben Ainslie Sports Centre. The intensive five-day programme was open to epee, foil and sabre fencers of all ages and abilities, excluding absolute beginners. More experienced fencers were also able to take part in a dedicated three-day epee and sabre programme.

The camp also welcomed veteran fencers, who trained in Truro Fencing Club’s Salle at Truro School during a three-day programme. The course was open to veteran fencers aged 40 through to Grand Veteran level and included five training sessions covering footwork, technical and tactical exercises, sparring and competition.

For more than a decade, Truro Fencing Club had hosted a high-level summer training camp at Truro School, attracting fencers from around the world and welcoming more than 100 participants in many years.

The coaching team brought together an exceptional group of international and national-level athletes and coaches, including Alberto Pellegrini, coach of the Italian Senior National Team and World No. 1 Michela Battiston; Paul Corteyn, Head Coach of the Belgian National Team and World Champion in Maitre d’Armes; Tokyo Olympic gold medallist and multiple World Cup winner Joe Choong; Cadet World Champion Amelie Tsang; U23 European Champion Jolien Corteyn; and European Games bronze medallist and four-time British Champion Will Deary.

The week provided an outstanding opportunity for fencers to develop their skills, train alongside athletes from around the world and experience high-level coaching in Truro School’s excellent facilities.

Truro School itself has a long-standing reputation for producing fencers of the highest calibre. Through our partnership with Truro Fencing Club, as part of the UK Fencing Project, pupils have access to outstanding coaching, expert guidance and excellent opportunities for development and competition.

Over the summer holidays, a group of aspiring young lifeguards joined tutor Steph for an intensive five-day course to complete their RLSS UK Rookie Lifeguard qualification.

They dedicated themselves to a week of activities in the water, developing their swimming abilities, water safety awareness and lifesaving skills.

The programme provided an engaging introduction to water safety, helping participants build confidence in deep water while developing rescue and survival techniques, teamwork, communication, leadership and emergency response skills.

Children had the opportunity to work towards the Rookie Lifeguard Bronze, Silver and Gold awards, with each level consisting of three stages.

The course was a fantastic opportunity for children who had completed their Learn to Swim journey to develop their swimming and water safety skills further in a fun and supportive environment.

If your child enjoyed the Summer Activity Camps with us, you are very welcome to join us for our Open Day to find out more about life at Truro School. We would love to welcome you: https://www.truroschool.com/admissions/tours-and-open-events/senior-school-open-morning/

Join Truro Junior Hockey Club for Junior Club Day!

🏑 Looking for a new sport for your child? Come and discover Truro Junior Hockey Club tomorrow - Sunday, 6 September!

Join the team for Junior Club Day and find out what makes Truro Junior Hockey Club such a special place to learn, play and develop.

Truro Junior Hockey Club has consistently been one of Cornwall’s most successful junior hockey clubs, developing talented young players from their first steps on the pitch through to senior and county hockey.

But it’s about much more than results. The club believes hockey helps young people develop confidence, teamwork, friendships and resilience, as well as their sporting skills. Players become part of a wider hockey family, with a strong sense of camaraderie both on and off the pitch.

The club has a comprehensive junior programme taking players through to U16, with many youngsters also progressing into senior hockey from around the age of 13 or 14. This gives them the opportunity to play alongside experienced players, build their skills and continue developing in a supportive environment.

And the club’s success reaches far beyond Cornwall. Former Truro Junior players have gone on to play for National League clubs, colleges and universities, earn international caps and continue their hockey journeys around the world, including in Holland, the USA, New Zealand and Australia.

Come along and give hockey a try!

Whether your child is completely new to hockey or already has experience on the pitch, Junior Club Day is a great opportunity to meet the coaches, discover the club and see what junior hockey at Truro is all about.

📅 Sunday 6 September 10am - 12pm

📍 The Sir Ben Ainslie Sports Centre, Truro

Come along, get involved and who knows where your child’s hockey journey could take them!

We look forward to welcoming you to the club this Sunday.
