Any of our members are welcome to join paddle and a pint, which is generally on Wednesday evenings from May to September. It’s a social, relaxed paddle, starting from our boat shed at Bulbourne.

Paddle and a pint is ideal for people who have finished the adult beginners course and want to move to the next stage of paddling, or for anyone who wants an evening on the water with like-minded people.

We often go up the Wendover Arm of the canal. I particularly like the juxtaposition of urban and countryside. Heygate Mills can be quite beautiful, although often noisy! There has been a flour mill here since 1875, when it was a windmill. Today it’s a fully automated computerised installation owned by the Heygate family. It mills in excess of 100,000 tons of wheat a year. I still think it looks lovely from the canal.

It might be raining, and it might be January, but some our club members are not discouraged. A brisk paddle from Bulbourne to Cowroast gets the body moving and the spirits rising. :)

Spring is here and it makes us want to get out paddling. One of our popular club activities during the lighter months (May-September) is paddle-and-a-pint. A mid-week, evening paddle with fellow club members, we head out from our boat shed for an hour or so, followed by a glass of something in the local pub.

For competent paddlers, and you do need to be a member.

It was a lovely sunny morning for the adult beginners course, on their last session of the term. A paddle on the Wendover arm with a stop for coffee and mince pies. Christmas hats were optional.

Our club organises some friendly polo games for members in a local pool, which are becoming more popular as the days are getting shorter and colder. Polo is great exercise, and we have a good laugh with a mix of abilities.
