The Outrigger Club, is local group of outrigger canoeing enthusiasts based at the beautiful Tretham gardens lake 1 mile man made lake. Founded by John Court award winning outrigger canoeist, and endeavours to get people from all walks of life, age and abilities involved with paddle sports.

We had an exciting paddle today..10 of us paddled like mad in the worst wind ever and and we'd like to thank the adventurous ...as in 'bonkers'...couple who lent their muscle to our plight....together we braved the waves...and yes! Lakes can have waves...I've decided to stop being an optimist...its probably not useful in risk assessment...I really thought the wind would drop...well, we had fun and plenty of exercise today. 😊

Brilliant cold bright morning on the lake. Obviously made us paddle faster, our best time since we’ve been training 9 minutes 47 seconds. We’ve got a space in the V6 for a few weeks as one of our crew is off to find the sun. If you fancy trying the sprint session 9.15am on Wednesday speak to Janet. We’d make you very welcome.

Great session on the Lake today despite the rain. It obviously made us paddle faster & harder. Great that all the sprint session are going so well. Thanks to John, Phil & Janet for organising & steering sessions.

Hello! Its a long time since I put something on our Facebook page...found the password after only 5 tries...lol
This week we cleaned some boats...thanks to everyone who helped to scrub...a very bonding experience. You'll see from the photo ...that's if I manage to post it of course...that our american visitor from Japan joined us in the scrub....we have a great way of welcoming our visitors...J 😊

We're hoping that the ice has melted in the lake now...we've had 10 days of abstinence...unable to get the 12 seater outrigger canoes out...I've been involved for almost 11 years now and the lake has never been frozen for more than a day in all that time. A proper winter at last...let's hope it kills off the dreaded w**d.
One of our members, Deb, is trying to help out a lady who desperately needs all kinds of furniture so that she can set up a new home with her children. She will be living in the Burslem area. The first thing she needs is a bed setter. She has had a really hard time and I'm hoping that we can all contribute something, however small, over the next few weeks. We can all imagine hardship...some of us have experienced it...but now, most of us are having a good life...it would be lovely if we can help this family. Monday's paddle was greatly enhanced by the red sun....we expected the world to end so we got in an extra long first half...just in case. We decided to worship the sun God just incase..shame it was just the Sahara sand..but sooo gorgeous. We need to thank Sue J for being such an efficient treasurer for the past 3 years...and a bit. The annual accounts have been handed over to Dave L for the audit. What a good chap he is! Soon I will be getting my head round the Annual Report and it would be nice to have some lovely quotes from members to celebrate our fab third year...in writing would be good...txt or email even better...so I can't lose 'em...[email protected]

Just to let you know that one of our Monday paddlers has set up her own art class. 2 venues...Tollgate Hotel Ripon Rd ST 3 3 BS on tuesdays 6.45 til 8.45...and wednesdays 10 til 12 and Thursdays 1 til 3 at Oulton Village Hall.
