So nice, we just had to win the league twice ๐คท
Towcester won the league back to back after coming out on top against a Finedon side ringered up to the max, in what essentially to them, was a completely meaningless game ๐๐ There must be limited options for things to do on a Saturday afternoon in Finedon, I guess ๐คท
Why sides, and also why the league continue to allow, sides to play players that donโt play for them all season to play for them in certain games will always baffle us. Especially sad lads from the UCL. Maybe just stick with the lads who usually play for you and donโt be scared to play little old Towcester ๐๐ป
Anyway, we faced Finedon first team yesterday, with a couple of ressie lads and Sileby players in, and still comfortably came out on top ๐ด
Luckily for Towcester, despite a minor second half wobble, we have an unbelievable record at Finedon so yesterdayโs result was never really in doubt. We dispatched their first team 8-0 there in the 22/23 season, and also their reserve team 6-0 earlier this season.
Logan McLeod kickstarted the scoring, Finedons first team keeper misjudged a long ball from Sam Kelly, allowing Logan to tap into an empty net.
Adam Kelly made it 2 with a back post volley, following a lovely cross by Jake Dixon.
Half time 2-0.
The mini second half wobble occurred with Finedon making it 2-1 pretty much straight from kick off. Kel comfortably made it 3 from the penalty spot, before we had issues with another long throw making it 3-2 soon after.
The game was sealed though just after this with the best goal of the day. Pat stealing the ball off a Finedon (maybe Sileby) player in midfield and delivered a sensational chip into the empty net. Sexual.
Anyway, there was no way back for Finedon / Ressies / Sileby after this. Kel made it 5, for his 3rd of the day, with another back post tap in. Before Richie got his customary goal from centre half, making it 6.
Another Finedon first team player even had time to miss a second half penalty somewhere amongst all the Towcester goals. I forget how or when it happened as we were scoring so often, but the penalty was comfortably saved by Towcesters kitty cat in goal, Sam Kelly. THE BALL DOES NOT LIE. Never has, never will.
Some silly scenes followed the 6th goal, but as ever, ultimately nothing came of a handbags scenario & the Towcester celebrations followed into the early hours of Sunday morning ๐ฅณ
FairPlay to the lads who played for Finedon, wherever they were from, as they were a good side yesterday. Thanks for the hospitality after the game too.
SIMPLE AS THAT. ๐๐
