SCSS round 5 race report.
First pole position of the season in qualifying by just over two and a half tenths of a second.
Heat 1: An ok start saw me drop to second but then into turn one I was hit from behind and spin to the back. I then fought my way back through the field finishing just one point two s behind the leaders.
Heat 2: Started second couldn’t overtake P1 as I didn’t feel I could overtake safely without causing an accident, as they were moving under braking.
Heat 3: A bad start from second dropped me to fourth. By the end of the first lap
I was back into third, where I’d stay for the rest of the heat.
Final: Started P2. A good start saw me drop to third as I was boxed out in the first corner. By the end of the opening lap I’d recovered 2nd, after out breaking them into the hairpin. On lap 2. I had my first attack on the race leader, which was unsuccessful due to them moving under braking again. On lap 3, I tried a different approach expecting them to move again, which worked as I braked down the outside and rolled the kart into the apex of the corner finding myself on the inside of P1. I got better drive coming out of the hairpin so drew alongside. After a bit of wheel to wheel contact, I took the race lead. Then P2 and P3 went into a corner that you can’t go two wide through and the original race leader suffered a puncture and retired immediately. Out front I pulled a 5.8 s gap, crossing the line to record my third win of the year.
