⚽️ Home Ed Sessions Update ⚽️

There will be no Home Ed session this week as we make some changes behind the scenes.

Our Home Ed programme is evolving…

From Tuesday 12th May, sessions will be split to better support all players and their development:

🟡 12:00–1:00pm – Foundation Group
For players newer to football or building confidence and core skills.
Focus on ball mastery, basics, and enjoying the game.

🔵 1:00–2:00pm – Development Group
For players ready for more challenge and intensity.
Focus on decision-making, speed of play, and small-sided games.

This change allows us to:
✅ Give players more touches on the ball
✅ Create the right level of challenge for each group
✅ Build confidence and enjoyment
✅ Support long-term development

Speed Week ⚡️

Hop + skip progressions building into sprints… then straight into 2v2’s and 3v3’s.

Building explosive power from the ground up — feet, ankles, hips and movement mechanics.

Most people think speed = sprinting.

It’s not.

It’s:
• how quickly you react
• how efficiently you move
• how well you control your body under pressure

That’s what we’re working on this week at NextGen…

Then we take it into football ⚽️

Small groups. Loads of touches. Players getting sharper every session 💙💪

⚡️ Power Week 💥💪

Power. Intent. Good habits being built. 💥

Last night’s focus session was 🔥

High intensity, high energy, and the boys put in a proper shift — exactly what you want heading into a semi-final weekend 🏆

We hit:
• Activation & movement prep
• Lower body power (30s on / 30s active recovery with the ball ⚽️)
• Core strength
• Upper body
• Ball work under fatigue

At the end of each set - “Marvel” start sprints for explosive speed💥
No explanation needed for these lads — they knew the assignment straight away. That’s when you know good habits are being built 👊

We finished with competitive 1v1s:
Goal-to-goal sprints into attack, and if you score… the advantage shifts with the ball moving closer the opponent 👀

Tired legs. Sharp minds. Competitive edge. Exactly where we want to be. 💪

Good luck to these lads and all the Stoke & Torbay Police FC Youth U13’s Blues in their semi-final this weekend, go smash it! ⚽️

Brilliant result 👏⚽️

These girls have been putting in some great work and effort in their extra training sessions at NextGen over the last few weeks, so it’s fantastic to see them enjoying their football and getting a great result as well.

⚡ SPEED WEEK – turning faster can change everything in football.

In this Focus session with our U9-U10’s we worked on speed, movement mechanics and turning efficiency — small details that make a big difference in real match situations.

We started with plyometric power work to activate the body and develop explosive movement:

• Lateral pogo hops
• Single-leg hops
• Power shuffles

These exercises help players build stronger ankles, quicker feet and better balance, which are key for sprinting, reacting and changing direction in games.

From there we moved into curved sprint patterns, focusing on how players turn and accelerate out of the turn.

A key coaching point was learning to turn inside, rather than outside, and using the power shuffle to propel the body out of the turn allows players to accelerate quicker and stay balanced when changing direction.

Once the movement pattern was established, we progressed the drill into football actions:

⚽ Arc sprint → play a 1-2 with coach
⚽ Receive on the half turn and play out
⚽ Combination play with a teammate
⚽ Sprint → 1-2 → continue the run → first-time finish

We then repeated the sequence the opposite direction to work the weaker side.

This is what our Focus sessions are all about — the details.

Developing players who are:

• Faster in their movement
• Stronger and more balanced physically
• More confident receiving and playing the ball at speed under pressure

And ultimately helping them enjoy their football even more ⚽💙
