Swim Clinic

Swim Clinic Improve your swim technique and conquer your fears Often we develop playing skills first to help you gain understanding and confidence.

Aimed at adult swimmers the Swim Clinic sessions aim to help people with fears, those who want to improve their technique, their breathing, and those who want to swim faster. Based on the Steven Shaw method, Kari specialises in a very gentle kind of instruction and effortless swimming that gets you thinking of your relationship with the water, helps overcome deep water fears, and has everyone unde

r her tuition doing butterfly in a light, grunt-free way. The Swim Clinic sessions are more akin to yoga, and you will find your brain tied up in knots, trying to change the habits of a lifetime rather than sore muscles from doing laps of the pool. Fitness comes from being able to swim stress free over distance, rather than sprinting, so there is no need to practise, or try to get more swim fit before you come to class as we start gently so you understand the mechanics of swimming and the feel of swimming, and the movements are all about stretching and becoming more fluent in water. Even for more experienced swimmers and tri athletes it is very helpful to have your stroke analysed and your technique brushed up in the winter, ready for triumphs the following season.

Peaceful Swimming 2
Peaceful Swimming 2 or the technique group is for people who want to improve their strokes, but will also be exploring our relationship with water. Why do we want to swim faster? How can we turn our swimming into a 'practise' rather then 'exercise', through understanding the strokes we can be happier in the water, and the getting fit is a side benefit of good technique, so this will be a time to look at water skills and stroke skills, to get some feedback and analysis. To learn how to be relaxed and happy in any sort of water, knowing we are in our own element.

There will also be one lesson which will be open to all, Lynne Roper, swimmer, paramedic and leading light in the Outdoor Swimming Society who will talk and demonstrate personal water safety skills

Please bring goggles – preferably clear so we can see each others eye's! I use Seal by Aqua Sphere
A swim hat, and please wear fitting trunks, not baggy surf shorts.

It is a five week course starting Tuesday 7th July 6.00 till 7.00pm

Peaceful Swimming 1

I have two group sessions at Ashburton Pool, which I have named a technique group, and a beginners group.
However the beginners group is open to all to brush up on their water skills. It will be more like a Yoga class, With gliding, . inversions, stretching bits of your body in ways impossible to do on land, underwater chanting, gadgets, we have new mermaid kit, opportunities to try a snorkel and fins. bring cameras.
If you have fears you can gently face them. Learn what it feels like to be happy putting your face in the water, how to turn somersaults and do handstands, how to jump in. how to dive in. how to get out, what to do in waves
Peaceful Swimming is the sister to Wild Swimming
If you are anxious about your water skills, worried about your personal safety, but want to swim in the sea and rivers, this is the class for you.

There will also be one lesson which will be open to all, Lynne Roper, swimmer, paramedic and leading light in the Outdoor Swimming Society who will talk and demonstrate personal water safety skills
