Riptides Sweep Double Header as Outlaws Make League Debut
The Torrington Riptides claimed both games of a high‑scoring double header against the Plymouth Outlaws, as The Outlaws played their first ever SWWBL fixtures.
Game One: Riptides 15, Outlaws 5
Torrington made a fast start in the opener, scoring three times in the top of the first inning. Edward Keech drove in two runs with a single to left field, before Michael Curtis added an RBI single.
The Riptides continued to add pressure throughout the game. A three‑run second inning included Edward Willmott hitting home run to deep left‑centre, while a four‑run third featured a two‑run double from Keech and further RBIs from Curtis and John Lewis.
The Outlaws responded in the bottom of the first when Rupert Morris doubled before scoring on a Simon Pritchard single. The Outlaws continued to manufacture runs through stolen bases and pressure on the bases, and added three runs in the bottom of the fifth, highlighted by doubles from James Pollard and Dan Banner.
The game was called at the end of the fifth with Torrington securing a 15–5 win.
Game Two: Riptides 19, Outlaws 13
The second game followed a similar pattern, with Torrington scoring five runs in the top of the first. Willmott homered to deep left field, while runs were also driven in by John Lewis, Fred Batt and Curtis.
Plymouth answered immediately, as Dan Banner hit a solo home run to centre field in the bottom of the inning. The Outlaws continued to score consistently, with RBIs from Callum Lyons, Chris Peirce, Kayden Dechkan and Joe Dunn, along with multiple runs coming home on stolen bases.
The decisive moment came in the top of the third, when Torrington broke the game open (and the 5-run cap) with eight runs as Willmott delivered a GRAND SLAM home run to deep centre field.
Despite Plymouth adding runs in the later innings, Torrington added four more in the fifth and closed out a 19–13 victory.
