Riviera Racers are proud to support in it's 4th year of campaigning. As part of England Athletics and This Girl Can Run this movement highlights the invisible restrictions placed upon women, specifically in sport, once the evenings get darker.

A recent survey found that 72% of women in the UK don’t feel safe running after dark. It’s not just a feeling — it’s an everyday reality that shapes our choices.

A global running survey echoed the same story:

Almost half of female runners have experienced harassment while running — anything from catcalling to being followed or intimidated.

60% of women have changed their routes to avoid certain areas.

More than a third run less often, or stop solo running altogether, once daylight fades.

These aren’t just statistics — they’re missed miles, lost confidence, and quiet acts of self-censorship that shouldn’t exist.

Next Monday 26th October, Riviera Racers will lead a run and light up Torbay as a small gesture of support. If you would like to join us to celebrate this movement and raise awareness, please come along! All runners will receive a light up LED wand and scrunchies (if they wish).

Details are in the poster below. Everyone is welcome and no one should feel unsafe. Together we can combat this.

Next Monday, one of our runs will light up the bay. If you would like to be involved, please get in touch!!!

Let's Lift the Curfew is a national movement by Sport England’s 'This Girl Can' campaign that aims to end the informal "curfew" placed on women by safety fears during the darker autumn and winter months.

The movement challenges the idea that women must restrict where, when, or how they move outdoors, calling on society and public spaces to address the root causes of women's safety fears rather than asking women to change their behavior.

So, on Monday 26th October, Riviera Racers - Members Area will be running locally with rainbow lights, scrunchies and like-minded people to show that you don't have to be alone when running! We are a friendly and supportive club that lifts the curfew! 💪🏻

⭐ Monday 19th October

✅ 5k road, social pace, meet 6:30pm, Torre Abbey.
✅ 10k trail social pace, meet 6:30pm, Torbay Leisure Centre.

⭐ Wednesday 21st October

✅ 6k road social pace, meet 7pm, Boathouse pub, Preston.
✅ 10k road, same time and place as above.

⭐ Thursday 23rd October

✅ 10k trail, pace 10.5 min/mile, meet 6:30pm, Kerswell Downs Carpark.

Note: high vis clothing item: we suggest things like reflective body torch straps, reflective strips on shorts, leggings, tops or headbands, things that pick up car headlights especially from behind

🏅 Massive congratulations to Karl who is on MONTH TEN of running a half marathon each month 🥇

Karl: "Today I managed to complete my 10th half marathon. It was the Royal Parks Half Marathon in London. It completed the trilogy of runs with my partner as well. We started together and finished together. It was amazing weather, an amazing event and a perfect opportunity to explore the sites of London."

What a guy! Congratulations Karl, we are in awe of the amount of half marathons you have completed this year ⭐⭐

WHAT A SUNDAY FOR THE RACERS! 🏃‍♀️🏃‍♂️💨 🏔️

Huge congratulations to Jodie, Glenn, Kirsty, and Alexis who took on 'The Loop' on Sunday, hosted by the fantastic Winding Paths ! 🏅✨ 🍁 🍂

This event is no walk in the park! Taking in stunning views across the trail, 'The Loop' delivers proper Devon terrain along the Southwest Coastline: rugged coastal paths, undulating woodland tracks, grassy hills, and plenty of elevation 💪🏻💪🏻💪🏻 🌳🏞️

Of course, no Riviera Racers effort is complete without our legendary crew on the sidelines. A massive thank you to everyone who came out to cheer, marshal, high-five, and shout encouragement around the course 🚲
The sea of red support made all the difference on those brutal climbs! ♥️

Huge well done, team! you smashed it! Time to get those feet up and rest those legs. 💥💪

Between the three of them, they racked up close to 200km of relentless running. An absolute masterclass in endurance, grit, and determination. Amazing effort from everyone involved and with so much support from the club along the way ♥️ 🙌✨
